Te Korowai Roopu Tautoko Inc (Te Korowai) is a unique, kaupapa Māori social service based in the Taupō- Turangi area. The service was established in 1993 from the vision of respected locals and kaumātua (elders) who identified a growing need to support and build the capacity of whānau living in Tūwharetoa to foster positive whānau-centred outcomes and develop greater independence. This includes maintaining its commitment to uphold tikanga tuku iho - traditional whānau values, as the basis to providing a range of professional services to its growing client base including whānau Māori and ngā hau e wha – people of all other nationalities. now offers individually tailored support, advocacy and assistance to kaumātua (grandparents) mātua (parents), mātua whāngai (caregivers), rangatahi (young people) and tamariki and mokopuna (children). This strategic business plan marks a new phase for the organisation as it moves toward enhancing and its capacity to influence whānau futures living in and around Tūwharetoa.
