Taupō Repair Cafe

12/05/2026

Come on up this week!

12/05/2026

A simple plan:
SUNDAY workday

Don’t try to prep everything.
Just make a quick list of tools or gear you’ll want to take.
Check if anything needs charging, replacing, or finding.

Friday

Pack your repair kit.
Charge anything battery-powered.
Put your gear somewhere obvious so Saturday morning is easy.

Saturday morning

Water bottle, snack, comfy shoes.
Arrive with the mindset: help where you can, assess what you can’t, and don’t take home everyone’s problems.

Article in the paper about the Taupō Repair Cafe

Just because something’s broken, doesn’t mean it’s the end of the road. That’s the motivation behind Taupō’s Repair Café which is just about at the end of its second year.

Taupō’s next Repair Café is coming up, and this one’s extra special - we’re part of Aotearoa New Zealand’s 2025 Repair Festival (6–14 September), a week-long celebration of fixing, mending, and sharing repair skills across the country.
At our last event, 21 volunteers helped with 50 registered items, saving 324kg in emissions and 60kg from the tip. In total we repaired 38 items, marked 8 as repairable, and only 4 were beyond saving.

The Taupō Repair Café is proudly community-led, with support from Volunteer Great Lake Taupō. Bike Taupō, Project Tongariro, TimeBank Community Garden, Taupō District Council’s Waste Team, and many generous volunteers. From sewing and electrical fixes to bike repairs and even 3D-printed parts our team can tackle a wide range of jobs.

Repairs are free, but koha is welcome to help cover consumables.

Did you know? A chip packet can take 80 years to decompose in landfill. It's shocking!

Instead of going to waste, your chip packets can be transformed into thermal survival blankets for the 102,000 Kiwis living on the street, in cars or garages right now - and the 110,000 households struggling to stay warm in their own homes.

👉 Drop your clean, empty chip packets into the donation bin at the Repair Cafe this coming Saturday.
