Lake Taupo Rotary Charity Tournament at Wairakei Golf + Sanctuary The Rotary Club of Taupo Charitable Trust is running golf Tournament at Wairakei Golf Course & Sanctuary 20 February 2015 to raise funds for ShelterBox NZ.

The Rotary Clubs of Taupo are running a charity golf Tournament at Wairakei Golf Course & Sanctuary, February 2015, to raise funds for ShelterBox NZ. Since it began in 2000, ShelterBox have provided emergency shelter and vital supplies to families and communities around the world overwhelmed by earthquakes, floods, volcanoes, tsunamis, hurricanes, landslides, typhoons and humanitarian conflict.

A ShelterBox contains the essentials a family need to begin rebuilding their lives in the aftermath of a disaster. Each box typically contains a disaster relief tent, thermal blankets, groundsheets, water storage, purification equipment, solar lamps, cooking utensils, a basic tool kit, mosquito nets and a children’s activity pack. The cost of one box is $1500.00 and families have been be known to still be living in the tent two to three years later. Rotary has been instrumental in the growth of ShelterBox and are the cement that binds it together. The fundraising efforts by Rotarians make up a significant proportion of donations received by ShelterBox. Alongside this, Rotary Clubs provide invaluable logistical support to field operations.
