On the 3rd of June Taupo's Two Mile Bay Sailing Club Hosted the 2nd Annual Tremains Volunteer Servis Awards. Acknowledging the hard work and dedication of volunteers here in Taupo. With MC Phillip Purvis (Manager of Volunteer Taupo previously known as Volunteer Great Lake Taupo) with special guest Minister for Social Development and Employment, Tourism and Hospitality, Community and Voluntary Sector, Disability Issues, and Child Poverty Reduction Louise Upston MP.

There were 4 categories for the awards

Shining Star Volunteer of the year - Celebrating a volunteer with four or more years of service, demonstrating exceptional dedication and impact. Awarded by Ian Jackson (Volunteer Taupo)

Youth Volunteer Service Award – Recognising a young person (18 and under) who has shown exceptional commitment to volunteering over the past. Awarded by Sarah Davidson (Tremains Taupo)

Top Team Award – Recognising a group of volunteers who have worked together with passion and commitment to make a meaningful impact. Awarded by Mayor John Funnell

Volunteer of the Year Award – Honouring an individual who has gone above and beyond in their volunteer efforts, making a profound difference in the community. Awarded by Minister Louise Upston

Taupō Winter Festival are looking for volunteers to help with setting and packing down for their event.

Wednesday 1st July

10am – 12pm

Tongariro South and North Domains

Helping put out fencing and signage for the Light Hub, Ice Rink and Ice Slide for the Taupo Winter Festival.

Some lifting of metal frames required.

Monday 20th July

10am – 12pm

Who Can Nominate? Nominations must be submitted by a volunteer manager or coordinator from a registered Volunteer-Involving Organisation (VIO), Not-for-Profit (NFP), or for-purpose group.

Deadline: Monday, 31st May 2026

Eligibility: Open to volunteers involved in Not-for-Profit, For-Purpose, or Charitable Organisations within the Taupō District.

Board Member - Help Shape the Future of Volunteering in Taupō Events & Venues

Approximately 4-6 hours per month (includes board meetings and occasional tasks between meetings)

Step into a leadership role that uplifts and empowers volunteering across the beautiful Taupō district.

Volunteer Great Lake Taupō is on the lookout for passionate and community-minded individuals to join our Board. This is a fantastic opportunity to help shape the direction of volunteerism in our region and strengthen the heartbeat of our district through impactful governance.

**What You’ll Do:**
Provide strategic guidance and governance for VGLT

Champion local volunteers, community organisations, and inclusion across the region

Support the development of strong people, systems, and partnerships

Uphold values of kaitiakitanga and community connection

**Skills We’re Looking For:**

We welcome people from all walks of life, especially those with skills or experience in:

Finance, legal, governance

HR, communications, fundraising, events

IT, data, systems, evaluation

We especially encourage expressions of interest from:

Māori and Pasifika individuals

Young professionals

People with disability or lived rural experiences

Tūrangi-based or Taupō District locals

**Your Impact:**

By sharing your knowledge and life experience, you'll directly influence the wellbeing of our district, amplify local voices, and nurture a stronger, more inclusive volunteer ecosystem.

**Time Commitment:**

Approx. 4-6 hours per month

Board meetings + occasional mahi between sessions
