Youth Hub
Youth Hub is brought to you by the Golden Bay Youth Trust, established by passionate locals for the purpose of promoting health and well being for the youth of Golden Bay. Providing a service that is run by youth for youth for the benefit of young people. Including peer to peer support, group activities, alongside a health clinic and more.
Youth Hub is a space for all young people to come together in a safe and supportive environment. Offering a range of activities, projects and support from Golden Bay locals, so watch this space!
Professional support will be available from Caroline Jones, a local health nurse, who will offer a confidential non-judgemental service where youth can come and have a chat about anything from home to social life, relationships and any health concerns. Caroline is also trained in sexual health and can offer services for contraception and STI’s. She has strong community networks with other health professionals and know who to refer to if necessary. Also, services from Jay Blazek, who specialises in alcohol and other drug (AOD) issues with young people. Including; understanding psychoactive substances, managing your health and safety risks around drug use, and achieving your goals in regards to substance use.
Young people use public spaces just as much as anyone else, if not more. And yet, too often young people, or young adults are not included in the process of placemaking and end up "loitering" in other spaces. Some communities frown upon loitering, which can create a negative image for young people and just contributes to the stigma surrounding them, especially those who are at risk. By being actively engaged in youth-friendly spaces, young people can feel like they have investment in their community and they can develop a strong sense of ownership in these places.
