Kia ora whānau!!! We’re very excited to open registrations for the 2026/27 Tairua SLSC Junior Surf Programme! 💙

Another summer of building water confidence, surf skills, friendships and developing the next generation of Tairua lifeguards.

There are TWO steps to register this year:

1️⃣ REGISTER YOUR FAMILY MEMBERSHIP
All JSP families need a current Tairua SLSC Family Membership through Friendly Manager: $90 per family

Complete the JSP Enrolment Form for each child: $140 per child for the full programme.

We’re excited to share the next step for our Junior Surf Programme!

We’ve introduced a new Junior Surf Standard Operating Procedure, creating a clear, consistent framework that strengthens our programme while keeping everything our families already know and love. Built around four core values, it puts capability, leadership and safety at the heart of everything we do.

As part of this refresh, we’re also recruiting for two paid Junior Surf roles. If you’re passionate about helping shape the future of our programme, or know someone who would be, we’d love to hear from you.

Another wonderful Junior Guard School brought to us by the epic Eastern Region Team 🤙🏽

Massive shoutout to Natalie, Jake, Bianca and Caleb for representing Tairua so well this weekend.

The goal of Junior Guard School isn’t just learning new skills, it’s building friendships and connections with other young lifeguards from across the region. These friendships make future courses, camps and opportunities even more fun because you already know a bunch of people!

They were blessed with epic weather and had an intro to SurfCom session, designed their dream surf clubs, participated in first aid scenarios, goal setting, and wrapped it all up with a huge Amazing Race on Sunday afternoon.

We also had Archer and Caitlin head along as mentors for the first time, and they were absolutely awesome in the role. Toby was there as an instructor too, helping make it such an epic weekend for everyone.

Proud of everyone who got involved, gave everything a go, and represented Tairua so well. Bring on the next one!

Can you help us get Junior Surf ready?

We're looking for a few volunteers to help wash our Junior Surf caps and vests before the season kicks off.

If you can take a load home to wash, we'd really appreciate it. Every little bit helps and makes the job much more manageable for our small team.

Gear can be collected from the club over Matariki weekend while lifeguard training is on. Thanks in advance! 💙💛

🌊 Intermediate Guard School 🌊

A huge congratulations to Lincoln, Max, Lucia, and Quentin for successfully completing our Intermediate Guard School!
Throughout the weekend, candidates took part in first aid scenarios, patrol scenarios, leadership activities, rock jump training, and a range of modules designed to build their skills, knowledge, and confidence as surf lifeguards.

A big thank you to the entire instructing team for their support and guidance throughout the programme, with special thanks to Briarna as part of the instructing team and Gabby for her contribution as a staff member.

It was awesome to see the growth, teamwork, and enthusiasm shown by everyone involved. We look forward to seeing these members continue to develop both on patrol and within the club! 👏🏽🌊

A massive thank you to everyone who has stepped up to help lead the club this season. From finance and strategy to governance, training, and supporting the future direction of the club, this group brings a huge mix of experience.

There’s a huge amount happening behind the scenes and we’re lucky to have such a passionate team involved.
