Thanks Jen and her generous Department of Conservation colleagues!

Keen to sort bikes for her family, Jen (pictured right) contacted Bike Hub after a friend told her a bit about us. We were happy to help and really enjoyed meeting Jen and her family.

Being the kind and thoughtful person that Jen is, she decided to hatch a plan to support Bike Hub. She organised a collection of bikes and new (or gently used) bike gear (including much needed helmets) from her DOC colleagues.

Just days later, we received a message from Jen asking if it would be convenient for us to collect boxes of donated gear and bikes from DOC. We were more than happy to do so, and very grateful for the generosity of everyone who contributed.

If you would like to organise a bike gear collection for Bike Hub at your workplace, organisation or club, we’d be happy to arrange a pickup. Just get in touch via our published email or phone number.

Here at Bike Hub we really like getting people on bikes, so when we heard Parklands School in Motueka needed some new (to them) bikes for their students to use, we were happy to help!

The school usually holds a Wheels Wednesday, where the bikes come out and are ridden by students at school, but as their first load of Bike Hub bikes were picked up on a Monday the staff decided a Wheelie Monday was definitely in order.

Growing kids = new Bike Hub bikes

The Nacagilevu family stopped by recently as the girls had outgrown their bikes. It was extra special to see them again because they are the stars on our Bike Hub van signage! We couldn’t miss the opportunity of sharing a photo showing how much the kids had grown.

The girls were really polite and gave our volunteers a huge thank you for both their new bikes and the service they received - talk about warm fuzzies. The family plan to donate their outgrown bikes back to Bike Hub so we can service them and get them ready for another family. We love it when people do that.

If you need some bigger bikes for your kids, or one for yourself, pop in and see us Wednesdays 3.30-5.30pm. We really love getting people on bikes.

If you have bikes to donate, you’re welcome to drop them off to Bike Hub on Mondays, Tuesdays or Wednesdays 9.30-12pm (our mechanic sessions), or Wednesdays 3.30-5.30pm.

Update:
We just want to reassure people that the cameras we have are very good quality and do collect clear footage. Unfortunately when still photos are collected from the footage and zoomed in on, the clarity does suffer. The police are actively following up on these incidents.

We want to say a huge thank you to our wonderful community for your words of encouragement and support. We are continuing to get bikes ready for rehoming so as always, if you need a bike please come and see us on Wednesdays 3.30-5.30pm 🚲

More Break ins at Bike Hub

In the last week we’ve had 2 more break ins at Bike Hub. While the people weren’t able to access our workshop this time, they did break our windows and locks leaving us with very expensive cleanup and fixup bills.

Thankfully there are now security cameras monitoring our end of Saxton Field, so it’s only a matter of time until these people are identified. To do that, we need your help!

If you know either of these people, please contact the police quoting the appropriate reference.

Police file ref: 260721/0879 - for the person who broke the locks and bolts on our bike cage on 20 July at 2.44am, pictured here in a white or light coloured hoodie and puffer jacket. He arrived on an electric scooter.

Juana and Natasha attend our Tuesday youth sessions and have recently moved to Whakatū with just the essentials. When Natasha mentioned she was looking for a bike, we knew exactly where to go.

A huge thank you to Bike Hub Nelson for helping make getting around a little easier and supporting this lovely whānau as they settle into their new home.

Solomon visited Bike Hub the other day, in need of some wheels. He told us that he had never owned a bike before so was super excited to find this very cool GT. Solomon said he really liked the suspension and was looking forward to riding to Victory Primary School.
