Calling all hunga tiaki of Ngāti Uenukukōpako, Ngāti Whakaue, Ngāti Rangiwewehi and Ngāti Rangiteaorere as kaitiaki of Mokoia Island we are offering two planned wānanga regarding the Kiwi on Mokoia Island, please select to attend one of the below wānanga:

With the support of the Mokoia Island Trust, the Mokoia Island Kiwi Project team warmly invites you to a wānanga about the Northern Brown Kiwi and our kaupapa to protect and preserve this taonga species on Mokoia Island.

This wānanga is an opportunity to:

🌟Learn about the history of Northern Brown Kiwi on Mokoia,
🌟 Hear about our iwi-led kiwi conservation and biosecurity mahi happening right now,
🌟 Discover what we have planned in Year 1 of our 3-year Kiwi Management Plan to protect kiwi on the island,
🌟And most importantly, share your whakaaro, ideas, and support for the future of this kaupapa.

We have been overwhelmed with the huge positive response we've received and will close off the registration of interest earlier than we expected. Wednesday 16 April 5pm.

Please know if you registered kei te tino mihi koutou ki a koutou, unfortunately not everyone will make it to this kiwi count in May but there are further opportunities in the year to come. Be assured everyone will be contacted.

Registration of Interest - Environmental & Kiwi Volunteers for Kiwi Count on Mokoia Island

An opportunity to spend a day and night contributing to looking after kiwi on Mokoia Island. In May 2025 the Mokoia Island Trust and Mokoia Island Care Group will be performing a Kiwi Count to contribute towards a larger Kiwi Management Plan to assess how our kiwi are on Mokoia to ensure their safety and survival.
We are seeking volunteers who are able to come onto the island from 9am to 9am the following day (see dates below). If you are volunteering for the Taiao and Kiwi Count you must have a good level of fitness.

If you cannot make these dates you can register your interest to be noted in our database for future environmental voluntary work.
All volunteers must be 18 years and above.
NOTE: Your place is not confirmed until you have received a confirmation email. One registration per person.
Dates: Saturday 24 May 9am to Tuesday 27 May 9am.
Daily 9am pick-up /drop-off from Sulphur Point, Rotorua Sat 24 May - Tues 27 May.
