Kia ora e te iwi
Our Te Rātā Whakamaru team have been keeping busy in our Taiao.
Over the past few month’s, the team has continued monitoring and controlling wallaby activity across the whenua.
Trapping is continuing across key locations (see map for current location). Traps are being checked regularly and reset where required. This mahi is important to help manage pest populations that affect our native species and the health of the whenua. Data collected for the month of February saw kills of 360 Possums, 50 Wallaby, 13 Rats and 9 Hedgehogs within the Trapline.
If you or anyone you know is out and about on our whenua, please remember:
• Do not disturb traps you may come across
• Keep Tamariki and dogs away from trap lines.
• Report any damaged or triggered traps that may need attention.
Rotoiti Hunting Season has begun, the month of April is Roar Season, so our Whenua will be busy, please stay safe, keep to the rules. If you’re out and know of whānau or koeke who may enjoy some kai, kia kaha te tohatoha.
