Fascinating visit to the Fire and Emergency New Zealand Training Centre opposite the Rotorua Airport. The street fronts look like a movie set. Much is done to make the fighting of fires in kitchens, cars, boats, trains, and multi-storey buildings as realistic as possible.

The 2,00 professional career fire fighters and the 12,000 volunteer fire fighters from across New Zealand all come to this training centre for initial training and refresher courses. Accommodating them during their week-long stay provides a significant income stream to Rotorua hotels.

It is great to see the strong community interest in saving the Prince's Gate arches, an important part of our cityโ€™s history.

Rotary in Rotorua has a long association with buildings in Government Gardens, spanning almost a century. Te Runanga Tea Rooms, the Blue Baths, and the Bath House were venues for Rotary meetings for close to fifty years.

Over the last seventy years, Rotary has also either led or participated in efforts to save from demolition and restore a number of iconic buildings in Government Gardens, such as the Bath House and Te Runganga Tea Rooms.

As a Rotary Club, we are keen to explore how we can assist this much needed salvage effort.

Members of the Rotary Club of Rotorua were invited by the Agrodome to harvest kiwifruit from their vines which had to go to allow winter pruning to be done.

Nine members were able to harvest around 300kg of fruit which was distributed to foodbanks at Trinity Hall, St John and the Salvation Army , and also to Parksyde.

Great to be able to contribute to these important community organisations
