We are pleased to share that Get Comfortable with Protection https://www.healthnz.govt.nz/health-topics/keeping-healthy/safe-sex/hiv-get-comfortable-with-protection, Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora's HIV combination prevention campaign is now live. The campaign launched nationally on 20 August 2026 and supports implementation of the National HIV Action Plan for Aotearoa New Zealand 2023-2030.
You may recall hearing updates about this work over the past few years as it progressed through development and implementation. It is exciting to see the campaign now come to life and begin reaching whānau and communities across Aotearoa.
The campaign has been developed to support increased uptake of HIV combination prevention among Māori at risk of HIV. It was informed through extensive research, wānanga and ongoing stakeholder engagement throughout its development. Feedback from stakeholders, community representatives and people with lived experience played an important role in shaping and refining the campaign through its development.
At the heart of the campaign is the idea that conversations about protection should feel normal and comfortable. Through relatable whānau-centered stories, Get Comfortable with Protection encourages kōrero about protection, testing and sexual health while promoting awareness of the range of HIV prevention options available.
The campaign is currently running across digital, social media and community channels and directs audiences to information on HIV combination prevention, including condoms, PrEP, PEP, testing and other prevention tools.
We encourage you to explore the campaign and share it through your networks where appropriate.
