Kia ora whanau.
Our Tane Cancer Support Group have their next hui this Friday at our office @10.15am.
If you are fighting cancer and feel you would like to meet with others who are going through or have been through the same battles, please come along.

We are privileged to have a special guest speaker (Medical Ongologist, LDHB) this week followed by korero and light refreshments.

Our last hui - movies followed by a lovely lunch - was enjoyed by all, instigating good comoradery and korero.

What the heck?

Fuel $$$ is needed for every day chores, but especially to get to and from Specialist Cancer appointments, particularly those out of town to Waikato, Tauranga and Auckland.

If you are registered with Aroha Mai Cancer Support Services -you cant afford to miss crucial appointments - we may be able to help?

Some stories are worth sharing:

Hi David
Jay has now officially completed his Radiation treatment, I am super proud of him.He did amazing under very difficult circumstances to navigate.

I would like to point out none of this would have been possible without Aroha Mai - Jay's story should be a poster for how we are losing people through the cracks due to a system that can't seem to support or recognize an individuals needs. A system that can't even seem to solve the basics of transport etc.

No person in our country should face not having treatment for cancer and losing a fair go at a curative pathway because of transport.

No person should lose their shot to a future after treatment because they had poor health literacy. I know we are all on the same song sheet but I will always shout this message!

"You and your service does save lives", that I know as a fact. Thank you to your team for all their assistance.

"Nga mihi nui mo to koutou manaakitanga"

Aroha Mai Cancer Support Services wish to acknowledge the Mangakino Hawks league club along with Korowai Aroha, Te Runanga o Ngati Pikiao and the John Gamlin whanau for the generous koha raised from their recent fundraising efforts.

John passed away in May this year after a brave emotional battle with cancer.
Ringing the chemo bell only to be diagnosed with a cancer reoccurance.

To be acknowledged for the support we provided to John - knowing that this is the same support / mahi we offer to all our clients- is indeed a humbing experience.

All koha received is- as always- used towards improving the inequity, wellbeing and cancer outcomes of all our clients and their whanau.

Aroha mai cancer support team distributed over 100 Winter Wellness Packs to our clients and whanau over the last 2 months.
All gratefully received with the knitted items proving very popular along with Vicks, Deep heat and all the other wellness goodies.

Many thanks to the Hakae Lee whanau for their generous koha to make this years packs available to all our Aroha Mai whānau.
And to all our volunteer knitters for the beautiful knitted items.

We have a wheelchair, walker or even crutches that you are welcome to
"Borrow in the Short Term"
to help you get around.

Just give a us a call and we can talk about the best option most suitable for you.

3 heart warming events happened this week.

1) Aroha Mai Cancer Support are humbled and excited to receive a generous koha from the Awhina Muso club. They recently held a cancer music extravaganza fund raiser and presented the monie's they raised to Aroha Mai knowing that every koha dollar received is always used to support our clients and their whānau.
"We thank them for their generosity".

2) More knitted items received from our volunteer knitters this week. Shawls, scarves, beanies, mittens, knee warmers, blankees and socks.
So many hours spent producing items to keep our cancer affected people feeling cosy.

3) Tane Cancer Support Group meeting No4 was held on Monday @ Macdonalds with
two new tane joining this week and the opportunity to introduce Rob (Aroha Mai
Kaimahi)

To all our clients, if you are able, please call into our office for a korero, a cuppa, a general catchup and to pick up your Winter Wellness Pack.

As well as the contents in the pack you will get a knitted item to help keep you warm, either:
1 Slippers
2 Beanies
3 Socks
Or
4 Gloves

Be great to see you -we dont want you to miss out - but if you can't make it to our office please contact us to check if a delivery is possible.
