🌿 Sacred Heart, Mararoa & Heddon Bush, you guys rock!! 🌿

Last month, we teamed up with Enviroschools and Nick Kiddey from the South Coast Environment Society to visit 3 Enviroschools and teach the children (and teachers!) the importance of composting.

These 3 schools were the first out of 6 to take part in our food waste workshops and these superstars are so passionate about diverting their organics from landfill and protecting our environment, whoop!

🗑️ Their first task was to complete a waste audit of their bins so they understand how much of their "waste" is actually recyclable and compostable. Next, they learnt about "greens" and "browns" and why the circular economy is so important and to finish, they were gifted two compost bins and an extra lesson from Nick on how to layer their bins to create fabulous compost to grow nutritious food.

There’s a wee bit of rain out there, but it’s cosy as at the Festival!

Come down for a hot cup of tea and cake! Today there are also warm soups, freshly-made sushi, apple pork sausages, onion tarts, so many baked treats, and more.

We have been blown away by the incredible produce that has been brought in to display - come and peruse them today and see who has taken out first place in each category!

🌟 The Harvest Festival is TOMORROW! 🌟

Remember to bring down the best of your garden harvest tomorrow (Saturday) to display in the festival hall: to celebrate our growing season and to show off all that we can grow in the far South.

There are also some wonderful prizes to be won, including fruit trees!
There are prizes for:
💐 The best bunch of flowers
🌹 The most beautiful bloom
🥕 A bountiful harvest basket
🍐 Prized fruits and vegetables
🥧 Famous fruit pies

Come back Sunday after 3pm to collect your entry and maybe even your prize!

This year, we have had SO many donations of beautiful produce towards our Saturday evening Harvest Dinner. We are sending out a huge thank you to these small local growers - many of whom we are lucky to buy from weekly on the Longwood Loop - for sharing their harvest with us. Thank you to Edwin, Jane & David, Mike & Faimie, Blooming Boulders, Passionate Permies, Aparima College School and Community Garden, Slinky's Sourdough. Thank you also to Farm Fresh South for donating a glorious selection of dairy products, and thank you to the Riverton Fresh Choice for their donation of ingredients that we aren't able to grow down here!
