🌊🌊From Ohakuri to Te Puwaha o Waikato, Waikato Regional Council monitors the awa to keep you informed. We are fortunate that our part of the Waikato (Huka to Pohaturoa near Atiamuri) is still in a good state to swim. Therefore, make sure to do your part to tiaki our tupuna awa this Raumati and to stay safe as a whanau.

‼️CHECK, CLEAN, DRY YOUR BOATS‼️

As we move into the hot summer months, we’re encouraging everyone who spends time on the WAIKATO RIVER to play their part in stopping the spread of the INVASIVE GOLDEN CLAN.

To protect the health of the river, please Check, Clean, Dry all boats, trailers, fishing gear, and watercraft after every trip. Pay special attention to any areas that hold water, as even a small amount can transport microscopic larvae to new locations. If you’re moving between sites or waterways, take extra care to thoroughly dry your equipment for at least 48 hours.

Summer is also a time when the river becomes a gathering place for whānau and friends, so let’s keep each other safe. Wear a lifejacket when boating, and stay alert to changing river conditions, including strong currents and hidden hazards and always keep an eye on tamariki near the water.

By working together, we can protect the Waikato River from harmful pests and ensure everyone enjoys a safe, refreshing summer on our awa

Also a big mihi to our tamariki for helping us develop these awesome signs.
