Today we’re reflecting on our foundations as we acknowledge the passing of a great man of faith, Des Short.
Des was the founder of Faith Bible College (FBC) and played an important role in helping establish Asian Outreach in New Zealand.
In 1971, Des, then Principal of FBC, helped Paul Kaufmann, founder of Asian Outreach International, share the vision of reaching China for Christ with a New Zealand audience.
From there, the connection between FBC and Asian Outreach grew. And New Zealanders from all over the country joined in praying, giving and physically helping smuggle Bibles into China.
Pictured here is the accommodation in Hong Kong that was used as a base for those missions throughout the 1980s and 90s. Each day, from 9am–3pm, the prayer room was occupied by team members interceding for their friends crossing the border.
Des’ faith and vision helped pave the way for more than 50 years of Asian Outreach NZ’s ministry.
Thank you, Des, for the legacy you’ve left through a life passionately devoted to activating Kiwis to embrace God’s heart for the nations.
