🌿 What a beautiful morning!

Last week, Liv and Holly from Te Herenga Waka o Ōrewa had the absolute pleasure of heading along to the blessing of X-Abilities’ new space within Neuro-Link in Whangaparāoa.

And honestly… what an epic space! 💛

X-Abilities is doing beautiful mahi supporting and empowering people with disabilities, while Neuro-Link is creating a space focused on neurodiversity, connection and support.

We absolutely loved being there to tautoko Tamara and celebrate the beautiful mahi she’s bringing to our community. 💛

🤝 THIS is why we do YHN.

Not everyone in the room does the same mahi.

Not everyone has the same funding.

Not everyone is looking for the same thing.

But when we get the right people in a room together… things start to happen. 💛

At our latest hui, we came together to talk about funding - but some of the best kōrero happened around the edges.

People sharing ideas.

Making introductions.

Realising someone else is working on something similar.

Offering to help.

Finding ways to collaborate.

And sometimes just hearing, “Yep. We’re struggling with that too.”

That’s the magic of community.

We don’t need everyone doing everything.

We just need to know who’s out there, what everyone is doing, and where we can connect the dots.

Because we’re not the network.

👀 DID YOU SEE OUR ARTICLE IN HIBISCUS MATTERS?

For months, we’ve been listening to young people, whānau, schools, youth workers and community organisations across the Coast about the impact the rising cost of living is having on rangatahi.

And we’ve got one big question for our decision-makers:

What are you actually going to DO about it?

This isn’t just about the cost of living - it’s about young people missing out on sport, struggling to get to work, worrying about money, feeling the pressure at home and losing access to the things that help them feel connected and well. 💛

We’ve sent our Youth Hauora Network Open Letter to our local MPs and decision-makers, and now we’d love your help getting it in front of them.

🏡 A big Youth Hauora Network thank you to Northgate Baptist Church aka SALT HQ for hosting us for our latest hui! 💛

There’s something pretty special about having a room where people can come together, have a coffee, share what’s happening in their organisations and have a good old kōrero.

And that’s exactly what this hui was.

A room full of people who care deeply about their communities, supporting rangatahi and finding ways to keep doing the mahi - even when funding is hard.

Huge thanks to the SALT team for welcoming us in and giving us such a lovely space to connect.

💰 A HUGE thank you to Natalie & Samara from KindWorks!

Our latest Youth Hauora Network hui was all about funding - and these two were absolute legends in getting us thinking differently about how we fund the mahi we do. 🌿

We talked about grants (obviously 😂) but also regular giving, corporate support, sponsorship, major donors, community fundraising, peer-to-peer fundraising, events, bequests and heaps more.

But more importantly, we started thinking beyond:

“Where can we find the next grant?”

…and into:

“Who believes in our kaupapa, and how can we build relationships with them?”

There were some seriously good kōrero, plenty of ideas flying around, and hopefully a few lightbulb moments along the way 💡

🛝 Can You Help Build The Sallies Playscape? 🌿

The team at The Sallies are creating a new Playscape for the little tamariki who come along to Sallies Playhouse on Fridays - and they’re looking for a few things to help bring it to life!

They’re on the hunt for cheap, discounted or free playground bits and pieces, including:

🛝 Gently used slides
🚜 Old tractor tyres
🪢 Rope for swings
🍳 Second-hand mud kitchens
🌿 Other playground equipment or materials that could be given a new life

So… have a little look around your backyard, shed, garage or community space!

Or perhaps you know a kindy, school or community group that’s replacing or retiring some playground equipment?
