Last year, our volunteers throughout the country responded to over 211,235 enquiries from the public and helped an additional 113,218 clients who used services facilitated through our CABs around Aotearoa. Ka rawe! We couldn’t do this without you – our precious taonga – our volunteers.

It’s National Volunteer Week | Te Wiki Tūao ā-Motu (14 – 20 June), and we want to celebrate all our volunteers for their mahi aroha. This year’s theme, Your Year to Volunteer – Tōu tau ki te tūao, has been chosen to mark International Year of the Volunteer 2026. This week and every week we choose to celebrate and recognise our volunteers for their dedication and commitment to the wellbeing of our community and empowering people every day.

If you are struggling to pay your power bill, you should contact your energy provider as soon as you can. Energy providers must follow consumer care obligations, which include working with you to keep your energy supply affordable. Your provider can work out a payment plan with you, so that your credit rating isn’t affected.

If you receive a benefit, are on a low income or have extra costs because you have a disability, you may be eligible for some financial assistance to help pay your power, gas and water bills.

You might also be able to save money on your power bills by switching to a different plan or provider or through things you can do at home to safely reduce your power consumption.

Do get in touch with us at CAB North Canterbury if you need further help with this or any other issue.

It’s National Volunteer Week | Te Wiki Tūao ā-Motu (14 – 20 June), and we want to celebrate all our volunteers for their mahi aroha. This year’s theme, our Year to Volunteer – Tōu tau ki te tūao, has been chosen to mark International Year of the Volunteer 2026. It both recognises those who already volunteer and encourages others to give it a try.

To our volunteers - thank you for your skills, passion, manaakitanga (support/kindness) and dedication to serving our community. This week and throughout the year, we celebrate and cherish you. We appreciate you every day, but this week is all about you - honouring you and everything you do for the CAB and the wellbeing of the people who come to you for support.
