St Peter Chanel Catholic Parish Waimakariri We are the Catholic parish of St Peter Chanel, based in Waimakariri, Canterbury, New Zealand.

Saint Peter Chanel Catholic Parish serves the pastoral and spiritual needs of the people of the Waimakariri district in North Canterbury through the offering of the Mass, Reconciliation, and the other Sacraments of the Catholic Church. We have Catholic churches located in Rangiora, Kaiapoi, and Oxford.

In this session weโ€™ll be exploring why authentic community is so essential for our human flourishing, and why it is a non-negotiable for the Christian vision of reality and our call to evangelise the culture around us. Weโ€™ll be unpacking the major currents that have all come together in the modern world to form a โ€˜perfect stormโ€™ of atomised human living that has broken down human community, and what practical things we can do personally, as a parish, and in our families to recover intentional life-giving community.

On Thursday June 18th, the relic of St Carlo Acutis will visit our parish! Join us at St Patricks Church, Kaiapoi beginning at 4pm. There will be a Liturgy of the Word and a chance to venerate the relic. Msgr Anthony Figueiredo, worldwide curator of the relic, will speak about St Carlos. ๐Ÿง‚๐Ÿ’ก In this session weโ€™ll be exploring the Catholic teaching about respecting human life when people are terminally ill, disabled, or in their elderly years. We will cover the increasing push for euthanasia and why the Church is uncompromising in her opposition to this.
