🥁 The Taiko Club is finally starting!

The wait is over!
JFQ’s Taiko Club is starting this September! 🎉🥁
At our recent workshop, we were very lucky to have O-Taiko join us and teach us the basics of taiko, correct form, and how to practice.
As this is a brand-new club, everyone joining will be a beginner!

We’ll use the practice methods we learned from O-Taiko and start learning and practicing together from the beginning. 😊

Everyone is welcome to join, not just Japanese community members.

The Japanese Taiko Drums Workshop featuring O-Taiko - Dunedin's Taiko Drumming Ensemble🥁✨

Thank you so much to everyone who joined us!

We had such a wonderful time playing the taiko together, feeling the powerful sounds and vibrations, and sharing lots of smiles and laughter.

It was so special to share and enjoy this beautiful part of Japanese traditional culture with everyone. 🇯🇵

Our Japanese Taiko event on Sunday, 23 August will start at 1:30pm at Arrowtown Community Centre.

Featuring O-Taiko, the event will begin with a Japanese Taiko drum demonstration, followed by a hands-on workshop where you can try playing the drums yourself and learn through the experience.

🥁 Exciting News! Our First Japanese Drum Session is Coming! 🥁

第1回目の和太鼓セッションが 8月23日（日）、Arrowtown Community Centre に決まりました！

今回は、O-Taikoさんによるデモンストレーションの後、和太鼓についてのお話や、練習方法などを直接教えていただく予定です。

時間は現在確認中ですが、2時間程度を予定しています。詳細が決まり次第お知らせします。

どなたでも参加できます！
ぜひお友達、同僚、フラットメイトなどにもお知らせください。

今後は月1～2回程度の練習を予定しています。

O-Taikoの演奏を間近で聴ける貴重な機会です！
ぜひ皆さんで一緒に楽しみましょう🥁

Our first Japanese drum session will be held on Sunday, 23 August at Arrowtown Community Centre!

Enjoy an O-Taiko demonstration, followed by a hands-on taiko practice session with O-Taiko.

The exact time is still TBC, but we expect it to be around midday for approximately two hours.

Everyone is welcome!
Please feel free to share this with your friends, colleagues, flatmates, and anyone who might be interested.

We’re planning to hold taiko sessions once or twice a month going forward.

This is a wonderful opportunity to experience an O-Taiko performance up close. We hope to see lots of you there!

Hello from Origami Club ⭐️

We started our session making stars today as Matariki is on our way.
Kept going with making animal faces, balloons, table and chair, a basket and a big challenge of Sonobe Unit by 8yrs old girls👏
Very grateful to spend time with local people folding beautiful papers.

Mental Health First Aid Course – Free Registration Open for Pacific & Ethnic Communities

This Mental Health First Aid course is delivered by Hato Hone St John New Zealand and provides practical skills similar to physical first aid, helping people recognise and respond to mental health challenges and connect others to appropriate support.

They will learn how to:
・Recognise changes and early signs of mental health challenges
・Respond in a calm and appropriate way
・Provide initial supportive responses
・Connect individuals to professional help and community services

This course is not about becoming a mental health professional or taking full responsibility for others’ wellbeing. It focuses on developing practical skills to notice, respond, and refer in everyday situations.

By learning these skills, participants can feel more confident in daily life and help build a more understanding and connected community.

このメンタルヘルス・ファーストエイド講座は、St John New Zealandが実施する講座で、身体の応急処置と同じように、メンタルヘルスについても「気づき、必要な初期対応とつなぎ方」を学べる実践的な内容です。

この講座では、サインに気づき、その状況に合わせて無理のない形で関わりながら、必要なときに専門的な支援につなぐ方法を学びます。

参加者は、以下のようなことを学びます：

・メンタルヘルスの変化やサインに気づく方法
・落ち着いて適切に対応する方法
・初期的で支援的な関わり方
・専門機関や地域の支援サービスにつなぐ方法

この講座は、メンタルヘルスの専門家になることや、すべての責任を負うことを目的としたものではありません。日常の中で気づき、適切に対応し、必要な支援につなぐための実践的なスキルを学ぶ講座です。
