**Queenstown Pickleball Club Committee Update**

Following our recent AGM, we’re pleased to introduce the committee for the coming year:

• Anthony Barrett – Chairperson and Manager of Streams & Arbitrators
• Alister Davis – Vice Chairperson and Manager of Helpers
• Kevin Hey – Secretary
• Lisa Wilbraham – Treasurer and Manager of Sessions & Calendar
• Andy Smith – Onboarding and Deputy Secretary

A huge thank you to our previous committee members—Anthony, Alister, Rebecca, Diane and Kevin—for all the time, care and hard work you have given to the club.

We would also like to thank all our helpers who run sessions, as well as everyone working quietly behind the scenes. Your contributions keep our club running and help it continue to improve.

September was a busy month for our Queenstown Pickleball Club members!

A huge congratulations to everyone who stepped onto the tournament court and proudly represented Queenstown. Competing takes courage, preparation and plenty of hard work—and every player deserves to be recognised, with or without a medal. 👏

That’s a wrap!

With our final session now done and dusted, we’d like to say a huge thank you to our wonderful volunteers: Richard, Rae, Sally, Elyse, Lia, Kevin, Jenny and Grace.

It was a big commitment to take three Year 12 classes through a total of nine pickleball lessons, and everyone did an outstanding job!

We saw real improvement in the students, and their teachers gave us some wonderful feedback. All three teachers commented on how much the students developed, how valuable the lessons were, and how grateful they were for the skills we taught—including some they hadn’t covered themselves.

They also really appreciated the variety of coaches involved and said that our support made their jobs much easier.

A massive thank you again to all our amazing volunteers. What a fantastic team effort! 👏

Hello, spring!

It feels so good to welcome a new season after a tough winter filled with freezing cold, heavy rain, floods, slips and earthquakes.

I think one of the reasons we made it through was our wonderful pickleball family.

If you’re not a skier or snowboarder, winter can feel very long—you might want to hibernate and wait for it to end! But pickleball gives us a reason to stay active, have fun and stay connected with others throughout the colder months.

Thank you to everyone who shared the courts, the laughs and the winter with us. Here’s to warmer days and plenty more pickleball together this spring!

And happy birthday, Chris! We hope you have a wonderful day!

We're excited to share an amazing opportunity for coaches in your club or organisation.

The New Zealand Certificate in Sport Coaching (Level 3) is a fully funded programme designed for both volunteer and paid coaches who want to strengthen their coaching practice in today's athlete-centred environment.

Participants will:
Gain 40 NZQA credits
Develop practical coaching skills
Receive support throughout their learning journey
Achieve a nationally recognised qualification

This is now our third year running the programme, and it has been a huge success.

The attached flyer includes QR codes for coaches and workplaces, linking directly to programme information and the online enrolment process.
Our Regional Advisors and Learning Support Team are available to support coaches and clubs every step of the way, from enrolment to certification.

🎉 WAKATIPU HIGH SCHOOL SESSIONS ARE BACK! 🎉

🔵🔴⚫ TUESDAYS | 6:30–8:30pm
For Blue, Red and Black players.

We’ll be trialling a format where Red players play with both Blue and Black players. Black and Blue players will not play each other unless numbers are low.

These sessions follow our student coaching session from 5:30–6:30pm.

A huge thank you to Diane, Richard, Rebecca, Kerrie, Karen, Paul, Rae and Sally, who have offered to help with these sessions!

THURSDAYS | 5:30–8:30pm
Starting Thursday, 20 August.

Thursday will be a Pair-Up Night for all levels! Arrange a partner in advance, or register solo and be matched with someone on the night.

The first hour will be available for warming up and allowing extra time for after-work traffic. Pair games will begin at approximately 6:30pm.

📌 A FEW FRIENDLY REMINDERS

Please be respectful of your fellow players. If a session is being played in a set format, everyone should follow that format unless all players agree to a change.

This applies equally at our alternative venues, where an official helper may not be overseeing the session. If you would like to change the format partway through, please check with everyone involved before making any changes that affect the group.

If you cannot attend a session, please remove your name from GPN. No-shows are disruptive for helpers and other players.

If you need to leave a note, please add it to GPN, as this is our official form of communication with session helpers.

Yesterday, the committee held a small gathering to acknowledge and thank Omid for his 29 months of dedicated service to the club.

Over the years, Omid has been a driving force behind our club's growth and success. He has always been willing to step in wherever help was needed, often managing difficult situations and member concerns behind the scenes. His dedication, leadership, and countless volunteer hours have helped shape the welcoming and thriving community we enjoy today

Omid's work ethic, generosity, and passion for pickleball have been an inspiration to many. While he is stepping down from the Committee, we know he will continue to be a valued member of our pickleball family. Thank you, Omid, for everything you have done for our club.

With the full support of the Committee, Anthony accepted the Chairperson's role, and we are fortunate to have someone with his wisdom, experience, and dedication leading our club into the future. We wish him every success in his new position.

In addition, we welcomed back Rebecca Lim back to the Committee. Her knowledge, expertise, and enthusiasm will be a tremendous asset to our team.

With the continued support of our wonderful members, we are confident that Queenstown Pickleball Club will continue to flourish while maintaining the friendly, inclusive, and welcoming environment that makes our club so special.

Message from Omid

I first discovered pickleball in early September 2023 through my friend Devon Gundry, who later became a member. I joined the club shortly after and was really impressed by how quickly Karen responded and invited me to try a session.
That first 3-hour game outdoors (after 30+ years away from racket sports!) was unforgettable… and so were the hamstring injuries that followed.
I would really like to mention Alister, Karen, and later Andy, who showed me the ropes. It was a very important part of my journey, and I want to honour their patience and spirit in helping someone who didn’t even know which side was up in pickleball!
I quickly fell in love with the sport and the amazing support from the club—it truly felt like a second family.
Wanting to give back, I joined the committee in December 2023 and later served as president from February 2025 until my resignation in April 2026.
Grateful for the journey and everyone I’ve met along the way, I leave with peace of mind knowing the current committee, now under Anthony’s leadership, will continue to take the club to the next level.
