If parenting your child feels really hard sometimes, you don’t have to figure it all out by yourself.

We have weekly meetings available that everyone is welcome to attend.

❤️ New Lynn / Henderson in person - Monday night
❤️ Christchurch in person - Montly meetings
❤️ Tuesday night online
❤️ Thursday night online

All meetings are 7pm to 9pm.

And you can join whichever group suits you best. Although it works best, you don’t have to stick to the same meeting every week. If Tuesday online works better one week and Thursday works better the next, that’s completely fine.

Have a look through the page, follow along, and if you think one of the groups might help, please reach out. ❤️

Parents don’t always favour the youngest… sometimes they’re just absolutely exhausted by the time they get to them 😂

The first child gets rules, routines, structure, consequences, carefully packed lunches and probably a laminated bedtime chart.

The youngest gets, “You’re alive? Sweet. Love you.” 😭❤️

It’s not favouritism. It’s survival.

Should social media be banned for children under a certain age?

There’s been a lot of discussion lately about restricting children’s access to social media, and we’d genuinely love to know what parents think.

For some families, a ban could feel like a welcome bit of backup. Less pressure, less comparison, and fewer battles about being the only child who “isn’t allowed.”

But others may wonder how realistic it would be, how it would be enforced, and whether banning it would actually teach children how to use social media safely once they do gain access.

Would a ban make parenting easier?
Would children simply find ways around it?
And what age do you think is appropriate?

No judgement and no perfect answers. We’d love to hear your thoughts in the comments. ❤️

Have you ever looked at your child and thought, “Where the heck did that behaviour come from?”

Often the problem showing up inside your home did not actually start there.

Children of all ages are influenced by the world around them. Their friends, school, social media, gaming, YouTube, other families, and whatever happens to be considered 'normal' in their little world can all shape how they behave.
Then suddenly, something that began outside the family becomes a family problem.

Your child starts copying behaviour that feels completely unlike them. You step in, and somehow you become the bad guy. You're too strict, or unfair. Everyone else is allowed. Nobody else’s parents care.

It can feel like you are fighghting your own child, when really, you are fighting the pressure surrounding them.

Younger children might copy rough play, rude language, lying, or bossy behaviour because they have seen it somewhere else.
Older children and teens might take bigger risks, follow the crowd, or defend behaviour they know you will not accept because fitting in feels more important than the consequences.

That doesn't mean we ignore the behaviour. It means we look underneath it too.

Who are they copying?
What are they trying to fit into?
What has become normal in their world?
What are they scared of missing out on?

Sometimes understanding where the behaviour came from is the first step towards changing what is happening at home. ❤️

POV: you’ve asked nicely 14 times and now you’re hearing your own mother come out of your mouth. 🫢

Parenting is wild sometimes.

You start off calm, patient, and determined to handle it better than last time... and then by the end of the day, you’re repeating yourself for the hundredth time and wondering how this became your life.

If that sounds familiar, you’re not alone.

At ToughLove, we talk about the real side of parenting. The hard bits, the messy bits, and the stuff no one wants to admit they’re struggling with.

Our groups meet once a week, either online or in person, depending on the group and location.

If you’d like to know more or find the group that suits you best, flick us a PM ❤️

Hands up if your child has ever pulled the old mystery stomach ache right before school 🙋‍♀️

You know the one. They’re absolutely fine until it’s time to get dressed, find their shoes, and head out the door. Then suddenly they feel sick, tired, sore, or completely unable to go.

Sometimes kids really are unwell.
But sometimes those physical complaints are the only way they know how to show stress, anxiety, overwhelm, or that something at school just isn’t sitting right.

If this feels familiar, it can help to pause and wonder what might be sitting underneath it. Often there are little patterns or clues that are easy to miss in the rush of the morning.

And if you need support, that’s exactly the kind of conversations we have at ToughLove.
Send me a message if you want to chat. ❤️
