💜 Volunteer Spotlight: Kate Gloeggler

For Kate, volunteering has always been about connection, community, and supporting others.

Her volunteering journey has taken her from teaching dance in community and inclusion projects in Ghana and Tobago, to guiding young people through outdoor experiences in Canada. Along the way, she discovered the power of connection, care, and shared experiences.

Today, Kate generously volunteers her time and expertise by offering massage therapy sessions to women through Women's Support Motueka. Through her practice, Of Body And Earth, she creates a space where women can experience relaxation, support, and a sense of being cared for.

Kate says volunteering gives her a deep sense of purpose and connection, reminding her that even small acts of care can have a lasting impact.

"What matters most to me is helping people feel seen, supported, and connected. Some of the most meaningful moments have come from simple acts of kindness and presence. These experiences continue to inspire me and remind me of the strength and generosity that exist within our communities."

Thank you so much, Kate, for the care, kindness, and aroha you share with our community. We are incredibly grateful for your support.

Last Friday, we had the privilege of attending the Youth Connections Expo at Motueka High School, organised by the Nelson Tasman Youth Workers Collective. It was an awesome day connecting with local rangatahi, having real kōrero about respect, and creating space for young people to share their whakaaro. 🤔

One of our interactive activities was designed to get young people thinking about relationship red flags. 🚩Students were invited to guess how many red flags were in the jar. ❓ We received 82 guesses in total, with answers ranging from 21 all the way up to 352! The most common guess was (unsurprisingly) 6️⃣7️⃣*six seeeevennnn* but the actual number was 86. 🏅 No one guessed it exactly, but a few came very close and they won some very cool enamel pins!📌

🗨We also had a whiteboard for the rangatahi to write down what respect means to them. 🖊 We invited youth aged 16 – 24 to join our Youth Advisory Group called RESPECT MOTUEKA who will help us co-design some awesome projects next term! 🌸

A huge thank you to everyone who stopped by, shared their ideas, and got involved. It was great to see so much engagement and thoughtful reflection around what respect looks like in relationships. Ngā mihi nui to NTYWC for organising this expo!❤

We are really excited about our violence prevention programme and look forward to building leadership opportunities for young people to be the voice of change in our community. 🗣

If you have any questions or want to get involved in our Youth Advisory Group - email [email protected] to find out more! 📧
