Deputy Grand Master - Freemasons NZ Hi, thank you for visiting my page. My name is Mick Turner and I have been appointed as the Deputy Grand Master for Freemasons NZ until 2028.

Over the next three years I will be travelling around NZ, and abroad, and hopefully making a positive difference!

Freemasons work paying more dividends. Well done the Coastguard. Great result for all.

A busy first day. Hobart tourist bus trip this morning. Formal reception at Government House, what a place, then back to the hotel for the Grand Masters Reception. A few pictures. If you have never been to a Grand Installation you really need to go to at least one!

What a great project to have been involved in. This Boat has, as of three years ago, saved 119 people. That is a significant number of families that do not have to deal with the loss of a loved one, that is 119 people that can continue to contribute to society, the value of this project grows with each rescue.

Securing the Future of the Craft - Freemasonry’s timeless principles are what young men seek, yet our numbers decline. The problem isn’t our philosophy—it’s our outreach. To secure our future, we must bridge the gap between ancient wisdom and the modern world by embracing digital tools, demonstrating our community impact, and empowering new members. This is our roadmap for becoming architects of the future.

Caroline and I just want to take this opportunity to wish all Freemasons, and their families, a very happy and prosperous new year. I hope that 2026 brings harmony and happiness to us all. I anticipate having the pleasure of meeting many of you as I travel around the Lodges.

I am also looking forward to our forthcoming trip, supporting the Grand Master, to the Grand Installation in Tasmania. I believe that it is one of the biggest delegations in recent times with over 30 brethren, partners and families coming along. Bookings are still open if you want to come. https://www.trybooking.com/events/landing/1496719

Thank you for all your support and the hard work that you all put into the Craft. Happy New Year.

We are beyond proud to see Graham Le Gros recognised with a knighthood for services to medical science in the 2026 New Year Honours.

Chair of the Malaghan Institute, Sir Paul Collins, says the honour is richly deserved and reflects a lifetime of service that has led to improved health outcomes, strengthened national capability and inspired public confidence in science.

“Sir Graham's ability to bring together the right people, secure significant funding and maintain long-term partnerships in New Zealand and internationally has enabled the Malaghan to lead nationally significant research programmes with global relevance.

"His contribution to global biomedical innovation has increasingly centred on amplifying New Zealand’s role as a serious contributor, underpinned by a fierce determination and belief that New Zealand has the capability and must be ambitious about delivering life-saving biomedical therapies at home."

Congratulations Sir Graham, from all of us – this is so richly deserved.

The decorations are up, the presents are wrapped, work is (mostly) over for the year and some of the prep for lunch tomorrow is done. So, I would like to take this opportunity to wish you and your families a great Christmas and a happy New Year. Here is to 2026 being a year of profit and pleasure. From my family (well those in NZ anyway) to yours.

We won Santa in a competition, well a chocolate one anyway! We are all sorted so dropped it off at Ronald McDonald House in Wellington. Ronald McDonald House provides accomodation for families with sick children in Wellington Hospital. Hopefully he will raise a few smiles over the festive period.

Had a fantastic day yesterday, we hosted a children’s Christmas party. Around 45 children and 55 adults attended. We had a bouncy castle, trampoline, football lessons, food and drink, a visit from Santa arriving in a yellow Ferrari (better than a sleigh but possibly not as exciting as arriving by helicopter as in previous years). Santa brought gifts for all the children and we finished with a visit from Mr Whippy as a good send off for all the sugar filled kids. Thanks to all who helped to make this happen. The Wellington Masonic Club, Santa, Caroline, Nicki and everyone else who pitched in to help. More pics to follow!
