🌧️ WEATHER UPDATE – LOWER HUTT 🌧️
UPDATE: 5:35pm 26 June
Clean-up crews continue to respond across the city as heavy rain impacts parts of Lower Hutt.
We are aware of surface flooding around the bays heading toward Eastbourne, particularly in York Bay, where the left-hand lane is affected.
Please take extra care. There is sea debris hidden in the flood water, which may not be visible.
Other current updates:
• A tree is down on Pilcher Crescent, Naenae. Treescapes are attending.
• There is a small slip on the corner of Port Road and Seaview Road.
• SH2 remains open.
• Wainuiomata Neighbourhood Hub is open until 7:30pm.
• Te Ngaengae and Huia Pools are open until 8pm.
⚠️ If you see flood waters rising around your property or you feel unsafe, do not wait. Evacuate immediately to higher ground and seek shelter with friends or whānau if you can. Call 111 if there is an immediate threat to life or property.
Please avoid driving through flood water and only travel if necessary.
🗑️ RUBBISH COLLECTION UPDATE
Due to today's weather, rubbish collections could not be completed in some streets.

Heavy rain continues across Lower Hutt, particularly in the eastern hills, including Naenae, Epuni, Waiwhetū and Wainuiomata. With prolonged rainfall, we are seeing impacts across the city.
🌊 Flooding and waterways
The Wainuiomata River and Waiwhetū Stream are currently elevated following this afternoon's high tide.
Council crews are monitoring both waterways closely. At this stage there are no changes to the current advice, however we will continue to assess conditions and provide updates if required.
We are also aware of:
• Surface flooding at the corner of Whitehall Road and Wellington Road in Wainuiomata, with crews responding.
• The Port Road and Barnes Street intersection remains closed due to flooding.
Please do not drive through flood water.
⚠️ Slips
The ground is saturated and the risk of slips remains high.
We are aware of:
• A slip in Lowry Bay affecting two properties. FENZ is on site.
• A slip on the Wainuiomata side of Wainui Hill Road. A lane closure has been put in place. Please expect delays and follow traffic management.
Please stay alert for signs of slips and avoid unstable areas.
🚗 Travel
Please take extra care if you're travelling this afternoon.
• Traffic is congested as people head home.
• Public transport is running behind schedule.
• Rocks have been reported on SH2. Drive to the conditions and expect delays.
Avoid non-essential travel if possible.
⚡ Power
We are aware of a power outage affecting parts of Avalon and Taitā.
If you come across fallen power lines, treat them as live and stay well clear.
ℹ️ Community updates
• HuttFest has also been cancelled due to power outages
• Riverbank Market Lower Hutt has been cancelled tomorrow.
