Good to see, and you may be noticing more native birds this way too!

We're on track to make our city predator free and belief is growing 🙌🏽 35% of Wellingtonians were confident that our country will be predator free by 2050, a number that is double what it was two years ago. With what we've achieved so far, we're just getting started!

Clearing rats from urban areas is hard work. But we've done it in Miramar, Kilbirnie, Lyall Bay, Rongotai and Hataitai. We know the formula and we're on the up.

This jump in belief was found in independent surveying from the Predator Free New Zealand Trust. The study found awareness of the mission and an intent to participate in conservation were both up. It also showed that 79% of New Zealanders supported or strongly supported the Predator Free 2050 goal.

Thinking that its time to get involved to help te taiao, the environment?

We're always looking to grow the army people wanting to help Porirua bring back the birds.

And you don't HAVE to be a trapper to be a helper! We are looking for people organisers, handymen/women social media and graphic skills, and just good people people.

If you are keen connect with us here. We will be in touch to chat to you and find out what/how you'd most enjoy.

You've probably seen the local news... kākā in Tawa!!!

Yes, it's very cool!

Kākā have been in Tawa for the last few years!
It's a huge win for our community, and we absolutely love hearing and seeing them around.

Backyard trapping is helping bring back endemic manu, like kākā 💚 so keep trapping pests!

Need a trap, let us know!

Have you wondered why there seems to be more native birds around and the morning chorus is getting louder?

We are benefitting from many years of hard work of many groups including Zealandia Te Māra a Tāne Ecosanctuary, Forest & Bird, Predator Free Wellington, Whitireia Park Restoration, The Capital Kiwi Project, Greater Wellington Porirua City Council and our own Predator Free Porirua communities. There are so many dedicated people doing the hard mahi.

And even though it is deeply rewarding work, it is never done with more to do. We are looking for great and committed people to join the ranks to help our native birds native plants and lizards flourish.

If you are keen to help out (and maybe not sure how) and you live in the Porirua region, we would love you to make contact via our website: https://www.predatorfreeporirua.org/get-involved

We have listed our next trapline training there coming up on 23 June, along with other local conservation related events you may be interested in.

If you just want to have a chat, send us your contact details to:
[email protected] and we will get back to your asap. Join in the fun!

We’re making steady progress and so is our birdlife.

Nearly eight out of ten New Zealanders support the ambitious goal of completely eradicating introduced predators.

While only about 26% of people currently have confidence that it can be done, that number is growing.

PCC Cadets get training by Predator Free Porirua!

Porirua City Council cadets have eagerly volunteered to take on the installation and maintenance of a trapline in Bothamley Park, Porirua.

These rangitahi were keen learners and are keen to support the predator free mahi to get manu and other taonga species to return to te taiao of Porirua. What great role models. Ka rawe!

Another14 trappers trained last week for Porirua! Thank you to those willing to volunteer their time to helping us bring back the birds to Porirua!
Volunteers came from Whitby, Paremata, Canons Creek, Plimmerton, Aotea and Camborne. Volunteers were of various backgrounds, nationalities and ages. Such a diverse mix.
And many of these are willing to check lines outside of their suburbs.
