💙💚🧡 This Week's Socktober Sensory Sessions 🧡💚💙
Afternoon all. How is everyone's school holidays going?

We're 5 days into our annual 🧦SOCKtober 🧦 fundraiser, and we'll be bringing our SOCKtober sock drawers along to each of the sessions this month to show you first hand what all the fuss is about.

Here's an overview of the hosted AMT Sensory Sessions for this week.

🎧 Low Sensory Session (Rebound NZ, Kapiti) - Monday 5th SOCKtober 5:30pm- 7:30pm.
🎧 Low Sensory Session (Chipmunks Tawa) Tuesday 6th SOCKtober September 5:30pm - 8:00pm
📢 High Sensory Session (Chipmunks Tawa) - Thursday 8th SOCKtober 5:30pm - 8:00pm.
🎶 Music Therapy 'Taster' Sessions (Chipmunks Tawa) Thursday 8th SOCKtober 5:30pm - 7:30pm 'Taster' sessions with Little Musical Caravan. Booking is required - One Spot Left

💙💚🧡 SOCKtober 2026 🧡💚💙

Hey, hey, hey, it's officially SOCKtober!!!

What better way to launch this year's new style and design/s than at tonights High Sensory Session, at Chipmunks Tawa.

SOCKtober is our annual fundraiser, where we get to share the message to the wider community on behalf of parents and their families, . "You might not be able to walk a mile in their shoes, but you can wear some socks to show your support", and we can all have a bit of fun doing it.

This SOCKtober we'll be in more locations around Porirua than ever before, with our fully stocked SOCKdrawer. So if you can, pop in and see us we'd love to see you.

If you aren't local, please checkout our online store (NB our new styles will be added this week). We have 3 pack, and 5 pack bundles available, with a full size ranges in most styles.

💙💚🧡 Low-Sensory Session at Huia Pool 🧡💚💙

Isn't it fantastic to see the sensory sessions at Huia Pool continuing. We advocated for these back in 2023 because we know first hand what a difference having a quiet water play option can make for families . These sessions offer a quieter sensory-friendly swimming session for your whole family.

💙 Sundays, 4:30–5:30pm
💚 Lights are dimmed
🧡 No music

It's also great to see a number of other local pools over the years taking the initiative to provide similar sessions, and if they don't, let us know and we'll see what you can do to advocate for one 🙏

💚🧡💙 Happy 10th Birthday to Us 💙🧡💚

The 7th August 2026 marks our 10th birthday. 10 years ago we launched the Ahuru Mowai Trust. The purpose was to make a difference in the support families receive raising children with extra and special needs, for those we say are .

Since 2016, we've advocated and provided:
🎧 Sensory sessions
🎶 Music therapy taster sessions,
🎎 Lego therapy,
💦 Adaptive swimming lessons
✂ Sensory haircuts, and much more in that time.

We know we are only scratching the surface, but in the last year alone we have supported over 120 families, provided 173 hosted sensory sessions, and provided 175 therapy sessions.

We are now only weeks away from opening our therapy and play space, which has been a long held vision since day one. We are certain it will be a vital piece in the puzzle to support families, providing them a much needed place to find support, take a breath and exhale.

Morning, here is a community notice of an event from the team at Special Olympics we thought we'd share.

Term 3 Young Athletes registrations are now open!

Join us for another term of fun, movement, and connection at our Young Athletes Weekend Programme in Wellington.

Our sessions provide a supportive, structured, and welcoming space for tamariki aged 2–10 with intellectual disabilities and takiwātanga (autism) to play, build confidence, develop skills at their own pace, and experience the joy of movement.

One parent shared:

“Thank you for this programme, for the opportunities, experiences, playfulness, and acceptance that you offer these children. This programme is a beautiful way to help our kids develop skills in their own time, while having fun, and building self-confidence.
The joy I see on the faces of kids that know they’re safe and know that they can be who and what they are, is beautiful.”

We’d love to welcome new and returning whānau for another incredible term!
