Measles case confirmed in Wellington linked to recent international travel.

We are supporting the person and their close contacts to help prevent further spread of the highly contagious disease and is identifying locations of interest where the person visited while infectious.

Measles symptoms can include:

🤒 Fever
😷 Cough
👃 Runny nose
👀 Red eyes
🔴 A rash that starts on the face

If you've recently had these symptoms, even if you've already recovered, contact Healthline on 0800 611 116 or your usual healthcare provider.

The best protection against measles is 2 doses of the MMR vaccine.

🩺 Diabetes Self-Management Education Programme

Borderline diabetic? Living with diabetes and finding it hard to manage? Or supporting someone with diabetes and want to learn more?

Join us in Waitangirua for an informative Diabetes Self-Management Education (DSME) Programme, brought to you by Diabetes New Zealand and Tū Ora Compass Health.

The programme is made up of six 2-hour sessions, held every Thursday from 10am–12pm, starting 15 October through to 19 November.

📍 Where: Waitangirua Hall, corner of Warspite Ave & Corrina St, Waitangirua

🗓️ When: Thursdays, 10am–12pm, 15 October–19 November

👥 Who: Anyone at risk of developing diabetes or currently living with diabetes, along with their whānau and support network.

Across the sessions, you’ll have the opportunity to:

* Learn how to manage diabetes-related changes
* Meet and share life experiences
* Make clear, achievable goals

Nau mai, haere mai — come along, connect with others and learn more about living with diabetes.

A heartfelt thank you to everyone who helped make Hīkoi Māwhero 2026 possible.

Despite the wind and rain, our community came together at Elsdon Hockey Turf on Saturday 3 October to walk in solidarity with those affected by breast cancer. It was a cold, wet day, but the warmth and support from our whānau certainly made up for it.

Ngā mihi nui to our sponsors, supporters, volunteers, kaimahi, manuhiri and stallholders who helped bring the day together — Porirua City Council, the Cancer Society, Mana Wāhine, Tū Ora, Hāpai te Hauora, E Tū, Collective Team Tararo, Studio Signs Kāpiti, the Māori Women’s Welfare League, Naylor Love, Coffee Cruisers Kāpiti, the New Zealand Heart Foundation, Te Whatu Ora, NZBlood and the extended Ora Toa Community Health Team — Te Ārai Awa, Māori Community Health, Te Ata Tūhono and Mātua Whāngai.

A special thank you to Christy from Daizy Designs for the awesome face painting, Aurora Riley-Ngatai for the fun balloon twisting, and Tofiga for keeping the crowd smiling and spirits high as our event emcee.

Every Entry Counts!

With the annual Hīkoi Māwhero fast approaching on 3 October, health providers and the community are coming together once again to raise awareness, show solidarity and fundraise crucial pūtea for breast cancer support.

Team Lead Māori Community Health Outreach Nurse, Emily Toimata-Holtham, points out that this year the funds raised will go directly towards providing oncology massage for local Porirua breast cancer patients navigating their recovery and ongoing health journey.

“We’re directing the funds towards something we know helps our whānau right here in Porirua. Oncology massage can offer comfort, relaxation and support during what is often a challenging and emotional journey,” says Emily. Waiora Collective
