Recently our rōpū came together for our annual wānanga — 3 days and 2 nights of connection, learning, laughter, and whakawhanaungatanga.

Being kanohi ki te kanohi reminded us why we do this mahi. Across our different sites, we shared stories, strengthened relationships, reflected on our purpose, and grew together as a team.

These moments of wānanga help keep our kaupapa strong and our people connected. When we return to our communities, we carry that shared energy with us.

Ngā mihi nui to everyone who contributed, supported, and helped create such a meaningful time together. ❤️

"Me uru kahikatea"
Let us be united like the kahikatea tree.
This speaks to the kahikatea tree as a symbol of unity because its roots grow closely together, representing strength through togetherness.

Every couple of months we come together with our friends from Wesley Community Action and Te Rūnanga o Toa Rangatira for our Inter-Agency Games. This time, Wesley hosted us — kicking off with a quiz and wrapping up with an Amazing Race around Porirua Centre.

We mixed, laughed, and yes… some definitely got a bit too competitive! It was a great day of connection, fun, and space for our kaimahi to just relax together.

And to top it off — the cup came home to Te Waka Whaiora again, thanks to a legendary game of paper, rock, scissors!

Whanaungatanga in action. Porirua united.

Safe travels to our Pou Ārahi, Tisa!

As Tisa heads off to Brisbane for the Indigenous Wellbeing Conference, we wish her safe travels and an inspiring journey. She goes to learn, share, and build connections with other Indigenous peoples from across the motu and beyond.

She also carries with her some special gift packs filled with Māori rongoā — including wairua-cleansing sprays, soothing balms, and kōrero to share.

Travel safe, Tisa. Return home nourished with mātauranga and gifts to share with all our kaimahi.
Mauri ora!

The kereru Hauora (AOD) team held a waka ama event to celebrate mental health awareness week. The waka serves as a symbol of holistic wellbeing, bringing together all aspects of te whare tapa what. Moving together on the water fosters physical health and strengthens connection with both body and team. The wai (water) represents our emotional state -offering a sense of calm (whakatau) or a space to release emotion (tangi) as a cleanse, which are deeply therapeutic.
