⚠️💨 STRONG WIND WARNING - PORIRUA💨

Morena whānau, take extra care as strong winds and heavy rain are expected across the region this weekend.

Please take a few moments to prepare your home and keep your whānau safe:

🏡 Secure any loose outdoor items, including trampolines, outdoor furniture, umbrellas, rubbish and recycling bins, and anything that could become airborne in strong winds.

🚗 Take extra care if you’re travelling, especially in exposed areas where driving conditions may be hazardous.

💧 Keep drains and gutters clear where possible to help reduce the risk of surface flooding.

🔥 Stay warm, check in on kaumātua, neighbours, and anyone who may need extra support.

🔧 If you experience any maintenance issues at your home, please contact us on 0508 832 487.

Please stay safe, stay warm, and continue to monitor weather updates throughout the weekend.

🏠🔨 Beach Road Roof Shout – Another Milestone Reached!

Today we celebrated an exciting milestone at our Beach Road development with a roof shout alongside our contractors, trades, partners and kaimahi.

This development will deliver 10 new discounted rental homes, providing warm, dry and safe homes for whānau in the community.

What makes these homes unique is that they are discounted rentals, meaning eligible whānau will pay only 80% of the market rent, making housing more accessible and allowing whānau to put more towards the things that matter most.

The development will include:
🏡 2 accessible one-bedroom homes
🏡 4 two-bedroom homes
🏡 4 three-bedroom homes

A huge thank you to Stackhouse & Firth, our contractors, trades, project partners and everyone involved in bringing this project to life. Your hard mahi is helping turn a vision into reality.

🏡 Today we celebrated the opening of 10 new social homes in Tuki Street, Titahi Bay.

The homes were officially blessed by Ngāti Toa kaumātua Dr Taku Parai of Ngāti Toa Rangatira, acknowledging the significance of the whenua and the whānau who will, from this week, call the new development home.

We were honoured to celebrate alongside Hon Tama Potaka, Mayor Anita Baker, Ngāti Toa leaders, project partners, and members of our community.

This is the second project delivered as part of Te Āhuru Mōwai's Strategic Partnership with Government, which will see 125 new homes delivered across 13 locations throughout Tawa, Porirua and Paekākāriki by June 2027.

A special highlight of the day was welcoming some of the new tenant whānau, who were invited to celebrate the milestone and view their homes in person for the first time.

As our Chief Executive James Te Puni said:

"Today is about more than just houses. It is about creating homes for whānau and tamariki in need and ensuring that the benefits of development stay within our own communities."

A huge thank you to Te Tūāpapa Kura Kāinga – Ministry of Housing and Urban Development, Switched On Building Solutions, Ngāti Toa Trades, local subcontractors, and all of our project partners who helped bring these homes to life.

Ko Te Āhuru Mōwai, he kāinga mahana, haumaru hoki, kia tupu orapai te whānau.

This week, Aotearoa celebrated Samoan Language Week. 🇼🇸

The official theme for 2026 was "E afua mai i mauga tetele manuia o le nu'u" (From the high mountains are the blessings of the village). The theme highlights the importance of provision, wellbeing, and supporting one another so that our communities can thrive.

Celebrating language is about more than words. Language carries culture, history, identity, values, and stories passed down through generations. By recognising and celebrating the many languages spoken throughout Aotearoa, we help strengthen connections, honour cultural heritage, and create a greater sense of belonging for everyone in our communities.

Here at Te Āhuru Mōwai, we also took the opportunity to celebrate Samoan Language Week in the office, spending time learning, sharing, and acknowledging the richness of Samoan culture and language with our kaimahi.

As Samoan Language Week comes to a close, we acknowledge and celebrate the contributions of our Samoan whānau, friends, neighbours, and communities.

Ia manuia le fa'ai'uga o le vaiaso ma ia saogalemu tagata uma.
(Wishing everyone a safe and enjoyable weekend.)

🏠 Roof Shout Milestone Reached at Dimock & Ōwhiti 🏠

Last Thursday, we hosted our tradies at a Roof Shout at our Dimock & Ōwhiti development in Titahi Bay.

The Roof Shout marks the halfway point in the construction of 12 new warm, dry homes for whānau. It was an opportunity to shout lunch and thank everyone involved in building these new homes.

A special thank you to our main contractor, Duncan Construction, along with all subcontractors, suppliers, and partners who are doing the mahi.

We look forward to completing the homes and welcoming whānau before Christmas.

Te Āhuru Mōwai is on track for a June launch for 10 new homes in Tuki street, Titahi Bay.

Switched On Building Solutions (SOB), as the main contractor, is leading the construction of these beautiful homes.

Te Āhuru Mōwai is the largest Māori-owned Community Housing Provider in the country providing homes for almost 1000 whānau. The organisation is owned by Te Rūnanga o Toa Rangatira, while Ngāti Toa also has a majority shareholding in Switched On Building Solutions.

“The mahi completed to date reflects strong collaboration between Te Āhuru Mōwai, Switched On, MHUD and all the local partners involved” says Te Āhuru Mōwai’s CEO James Te Puni. A key feature of the project is the large number of local trades involved, including a number of quality Ngāti Toa trades.

One of the many Ngāti Toa trades on site is Kewa McMillan-Parata, owner of Ka Pai Plumbing. Kewa is an iwi tradesman, leading a team delivering trusted, high-quality plumbing services across Porirua and the wider Wellington region.
