Weaving and Sewing with the Porangahau School Tamariki

As part of our desire to help our kids learn about Sustainability, Recycle/Repurpose - using things that we have to create something new and useful. This was great as the class had been looking in to this topic already so worked so well with they already knew. Whaea Lisa had her class hand stitch a patch each, so they used these as their front pockets. We were able to Sew some reusable tote bags with Taurekaitai Class thanks to Catherine Stoddart. It was an amazing experience and we had a lot of Tamariki that really enjoyed sewing, especially the boys, how awesome!

With Aorangi Class we went in and learnt about Harakeke, Weaving and the many different things that we could create out of Flax - Baskets, Plates, Mats, Hats, Bags and so much more! All the little Tamariki got to go home with a Beautiful and Bright weaved background for the cute Ika/Fish that they completed, How cute?! Thanks Ngaira for your help

COMMUNITY BEACH BOX 💚
This afternoon we (Nate& Tania) and our Tamariki installed our Beach Box - this is a project that our Mentoring group started...right down to which items to include and painting our Box. Their Motto for this is Borrow, Play, Return - so that we can all enjoy and make memories at our beautiful Beach ✨️ while planning that, we decided to give the Surf Lifesaving Box a make over - painted, signed and added some new items 🛟 we really hope that it is more visible now in case of an emergency.

If you are out and about at the Beach apopo then please stop by for a look, photo opportunity etc.

Kia Ora awesome Community and friends 💚
We have decided that this year we will put our efforts in to doing more Community events for our Rangatahi and Whanau, very exciting!! We have a Movie Night, Games Night, Art activities, Sports days and more on the planner and we will get those dates out to you all ASAP ✨ this unfortunately means that we will no longer be running our awesome After School and Mentoring but we will always be present in our community and kura
