It's been another busy and rewarding day at the Water New Zealand Conference & Expo, with great conversations, connections and insights from across the water sector.

Our team - Tim, Rob and Gabby - have been busy at Stand 99, meeting customers, industry colleagues and new faces, and talking all things water testing.

There’s been plenty to get people talking across the programme too, with sessions covering AI and innovation, drinking water, wastewater treatment, asset management, biosolids and the future of the water sector.

And there’s still more to come tomorrow, including sessions on PFAS treatment, emerging AI technologies and water reform, so we’re looking forward to another full day.

Celebrating a great night for ice cream and gelato!

What a fantastic evening at the 2026 NZ Ice Cream & Gelato Awards at The Glasshouse in Auckland last night.

It was wonderful to come together with so many people from across the industry and celebrate the creativity, expertise and passion that goes into producing some of New Zealand’s favourite ice creams and gelato.

The standard was certainly high, with 79 gold medals awarded across this year’s competition. A special congratulations to all of the medal winners, including the winners of the NZICA Kids’ Choice awards - Deep South for its Mango Ripple Ice Cream and Patagonia Chocolates for its Vanilla & Cookies. And a shout-out to the winners of the Chocolate Gelato, Sorbet or Dairy-Free Champion category – Joylato, Kerikeri Gelato and Patagonia Chocolates.

As a testing partner to the food and dairy industries, Eurofins Food Testing in New Zealand understands the important role that quality and food safety testing plays behind the scenes. From microbiological testing and nutritional analysis to allergens, contaminants and shelf-life testing, our teams support manufacturers with the analytical insights they need to help ensure their products are safe, consistent and meet the required standards.

A big thank you to the NZ Ice Cream Association for bringing the industry together, and to everyone who stopped to chat with our Eurofins team. It was a pleasure to be there, support the industry and celebrate its achievements – and we may have enjoyed a scoop or two along the way!

We’re looking forward to supporting the WasteMINZ Conference 2026 as a Silver Sponsor next month, at Tākina Wellington Convention & Exhibition Centre (TSB Arena, Shed 6). This year, WasteMINZ is partnering with the Australasian Land & Groundwater Association (ALGA) to bring the 2026 Conference to Wellington, creating an even more collaborative and wide-reaching event.

This will be the largest gathering of waste, resource recovery, and contaminated land professionals in Aotearoa - bringing together diverse perspectives and expertise from across the sector.

This year’s theme, “Mā te mahi tahi – Driving impact through collaboration,” highlights the importance of working together to transform shared knowledge and data into practical, measurable outcomes.

As a network of nine locally based laboratories, supported by global expertise, Eurofins Environment Testing delivers robust, defensible data to support risk assessment, regulatory compliance, and informed decision-making. What an incredible evening last week, celebrating the very best of Aotearoa’s cheesemaking industry at the 2026 NZ Champions of Cheese Awards.

Over the past 30 years, New Zealand has seen an explosion in the diversity and quality of locally produced cheeses - from European-inspired classics to truly unique creations that showcase our local ingredients and heritage. This year’s awards were a powerful reflection of that growth, with a record-breaking 267 entries judged by an expert panel in Auckland.

It was inspiring to see the innovation, craftsmanship, and passion on display across the industry, and to celebrate the achievements of this creative and rapidly evolving sector. Congratulations to all the winners and participants, in particular, Whitestone Cheese for its Monte Christo being awarded the Champion Commercial Cheese Award.

At Eurofins New Zealand, we’re proud to support the cheese and wider dairy sector with our specialised testing services - helping producers ensure product quality, safety, and consistency from farm to finished product. As the industry continues to grow and innovate, we’re here to provide the scientific expertise that underpins success.

Here’s to continued excellence in New Zealand cheesemaking!

Today, 22 March, marks World Water Day - a global time to reflect on the vital role water plays in our lives and the urgent need to ensure safe access for all. This year’s theme, “Where water flows, equality grows,” highlights the powerful connection between water, women, and gender equality.

The global water crisis affects everyone - but not equally. In many communities, women and girls bear the greatest burden. They are the ones who collect water, manage its use, and care for those made ill by unsafe supplies. In doing so, they often sacrifice time, education, health, and economic opportunities.

Despite progress, 2.1 billion people worldwide still lack access to safe drinking water. Every day, women and girls spend a combined 250 million hours collecting water - a stark reminder that access to safe water is not just an environmental issue, but a social and economic one too.

At Eurofins Environment Testing, across New Zealand and beyond, our laboratories play a critical role in safeguarding water quality - from drinking water to marine environments. Through rigorous testing, monitoring, and expert analysis, we help ensure the water communities rely on is safe, trusted, and sustainable.
