Have you checked out Crip Café yet?
Crip Café is The D List NZ’s fortnightly podcast.

“It’s a space for our community to chat, scheme, and share access hacks. Somewhere to get together and giggle over non-disabled people's nonsense. A reprieve from the ableist world.

“Every fortnight we'll be exploring a new disability dilemma that we can debate, laugh about, and maybe even solve, together.”

The second episode is tomorrow, so head over to their YouTube channel to check it out.

Therapists can help with specific strategies to adapt and accommodate weaknesses and coordination challenges.

Hemiplegia is a popular area of research involving brain scans, intensive therapy, customizable equipment and detailed physiotherapy and occupational therapy programmes.

The Disability Support Services (DSS) wants you to help shape further improvements to disability support services. They are asking people who receive DSS funding, and support or advocate for those who do, to take part in their consultation period.

They are asking about things like:
• What difference should DSS supports make in your daily life?
• What would more flexible support and services look like?
• What would make it easier for carers to take a break?

For information about how you can have your say (survey, make a submission, attend an in-person or online workshop) go to: www.tinyurl.com/5bm2937s

Please note: This consultation is different from the Disability Support Services Bill that called for submissions, which closed on June 12.
The Bill is a Parliamentary process to set the legal framework for DSS, while this survey is about improving DSS services and supports.

We want to say a HUGE thank you to the Stewart Family Trust.

Thanks to their generosity, the Society has received a grant to support the operational costs of our getProgramme/e-card funding for our Southland-based members.

Our getProgramme is vital for members who use their e-card funding to contribute to taxi rides, pay for gym sessions, swimming lessons, or buy bits and pieces that make life easier.

Thank you, Stewart Family Trust for supporting our members to live life their way.

Cerebral Palsy – Hōkai Nukurangi is a complex condition that includes many symptoms and experiences.
When you’re feeling unwell, or something changes, don’t assume it’s connected to CP and that you have to put up with it.
While there are circumstances when CP is a factor, like with pain, it’s not always the case.
Conditions can occur alongside CP rather than being the direct result of it and the appropriate specialist needs to be seen. For example, if there is a family history of chronic health conditions people with CP need to have the same level of screening and support.
