Yesterday, Manaaki Whānau: Caring for Families Through Addiction had the privilege of presenting to 40 tangata whaiora and their whānau under the umbrella of Atareira Family Services.

Families were reminded that they are seen, they are heard, and they are not alone.

Being able to provide insight, tools, and practical skills to help whānau walk alongside a loved one experiencing addiction is a privilege we never take for granted. Through a lived-experience lens, we shared hope, challenged stigma, and explored how families can identify their role, understand what is within their control, and reclaim their own power and wellbeing.

Addiction impacts the whole whānau, but so does healing.

Ngā mihi to everyone who showed up with courage, honesty, and a willingness to learn. Together, we continue to create new foundations for recovery, connection, and hope.

This morning in Te Whanganui A Tara Wellington, our whakatauki card is Connection.

Well this is my interpretation loss of connection is not the same as lack of whanau.

Today we present to 40 whanau seeking wellbeing to walk alongside their loved ones, its not due a lack of it's a loss of connection.

So today we help we rebuild that connection.

Today's Whakatauki card "He totara wahi rua he kai na te toki" A split totara tree is easy prey to the axe".

Are we standing firm together in group settings more important and we standing firm in ourselves in our own wellbeing?

This relates to my whakatauki of pain, hurt, resentment and hardship seen as water in the totara tree, if the water stays in the totara tree it goes rotten, when we tangi, cry, express our emotions and do our healing, the water comes out of the tree and falls down in the ground, into the roots provides space to grow, feeds our roots to make way for something new.

Growth.

How are you growing today whanau? 💜💯✨️
