🏡 Have an idea that could bring our community together?

Whare Manaaki is a welcoming and flexible space available for community events, workshops, meetings, programmes, celebrations and more.

We’d especially love to hear from individuals, groups and organisations wanting to bring public events, outreach initiatives or community programmes into the space.

Perhaps you have a skill to share, a workshop to run, an activity for tamariki or rangatahi, a support group, a creative programme, or simply an idea that could encourage connection and bring a little joy to local whānau. Whatever your vision, Whare Manaaki could be the place to bring it to life.

The space is also available for private bookings, including meetings, celebrations, workshops and group gatherings.

🌭 Sausages, Stencils & a bit of Play! 🎨⚽
Thank you to everyone who joined us to celebrate the beginning of Whare Manaaki’s outdoor play area. There were sausages, games, laughter and plenty of good conversation!

Our manager, Andy, kept the sausages sizzling before swapping the BBQ tongs for a turn on the hopscotch. We’re happy to report that both his cooking and hopping skills passed the official Whare Manaaki quality check! 😄

A special thank you to:
Kāinga Ora - Homes and Communities for their ongoing support,
Sport Manawatū for lending us their stencils and
ReplayNZ for providing balls earlier in the year for the community to enjoy.

We also loved having Craig and the Youthline team with us. They jumped into the games, connected with the tamariki and helped spark some great conversations. We’re excited to be working alongside Youthline by providing a space for an evening youth programme at Whare Manaaki. More information will be shared soon!

The outdoor area is still a work in progress. We’ve added a few painted games so far, with more colour, games and finishing touches planned once the warmer weather returns.

In the meantime, our Community Play Box is located beside the laundry room and is ready to enjoy! The idea is simple: grab it, play with it and put it back when you’re finished. If we all do our part to care for the equipment, the whole community can keep enjoying the fun — play it, pack it and pass the fun on! 😎

🤖 Lego, robots and nearly 50 brilliant builders! 🧱
A huge thank you to everyone who joined us for the Lego and Robotics event run by the Palmerston North City Library!
We had a fantastic turnout of just under 50 people, with plenty of building, experimenting, problem-solving and creative chaos.

A special thank you to Waka and Angela for generously sharing their time and bringing such a fun session to Whare Manaaki. Judging by the concentration, excitement and impressive creations, we definitely have some future engineers and inventors in our community! 💡✨

A big thank you to everyone who came along to our Mini Makers event! There was plenty of gluing, sticking, squishing and creating — and some very interesting creatures were brought to life. We’re not entirely sure what species they were, but they were brilliant! 😄

The playdough was a fun mess! :D and it was lovely to enjoy some relaxed chats while the tamariki got creative. We definitely should have taken more photos, but here are a few little snapshots from the crafty chaos!

Mini Makers will be back next school holidays for another round. 🎨✨

Huge thanks to Mark from Environment Network Manawatū for all the aroha, hard work, and garden knowledge shared at Whare Manaaki over the last few months! 🌱💚

The kids have loved getting stuck in too — pulling out old tomato plants, sowing seeds, planting plants, building bamboo structures and helping make the garden area a little more sheltered from the wind!

As we head into winter, the garden workshops will be taking a little seasonal break until around August. In the meantime, feel free to keep an eye on the gardens and help yourselves to any propagated strawberry plants still sitting in the beds 🍓

A big thank you to Arise Care for hosting a lovely Mother’s Day morning at Whare Manaaki this past weekend. 💐

A special thank you to Lee-Ann for organising the event, along with the team who came in to support and serve the ladies who attended. It was a lovely time of connection, conversation, and care. We truly appreciate the effort, generosity, and heart behind creating spaces like this for our community. 💛
