Marathon in a Month is a chance to challenge yourself and fundraise for the Cancer Society.

We believe no one should go through their cancer journey alone. Whether it's driving someone to their treatment, providing advice to someone who has rung our 0800 number, or sitting with them during their treatment - the Cancer Society is there.

This year we’re aiming to raise $100,000 through Marathon in a Month to support these services.

But we can't do this without your help.

Sign up as an individual or register as a team to get your friends, family or workplace involved in a worthy cause.

Once you’ve registered you’ll have your own fundraising page you can share online.

Volunteer of the Month for August 💛 💙

A little late, but this month we're celebrating not one, but two amazing volunteers who went above and beyond during our Daffodil Day campaign.

Glenys has been a long time supporter of Cancer Society and Daffodil Day, helping with event preparation, collections, and clean up year after year and so much more. Her reliability, hard work, and commitment over many years have been outstanding, and we are incredibly grateful for everything she does behind the scenes.

Pam is always willing to lend a hand. Alongside helping with Daffodil Day preparations, she volunteers every Wednesday morning at Oncology Reception at Palmerston North Hospital and assists the Cancer Society with school visits and phone calls.

Thank you, Pam and Glenys, for your time, energy, and ongoing support. Volunteers like you help make everything we do possible 😊

Being active is important for the health of you and your whānau and can help reduce the risk of cancer, specifically cancers of the bowel, breast and endometrium (lining of the womb).

Through Marathon in a Month we’re encouraging everyone to get active across the month of November and fundraise to support cancer patients in your community. It only takes 1.4km each day to complete a marathon.

Challenge yourself by taking up a new way of being active, or by going further than you have before, you could aim for 84km or even 120km!

Complete your Marathon as an individual or get your family, friends or colleagues together to register as a team and make it a social event.

We have over $2,000 worth of Rebel Sport gift cards up for grabs as well as accommodation prizes thanks to Woodhouse Mountain Lodge and EBB Dunedin to be won.

Today on World Cancer Research Day, we're celebrating the progress research has made possible.

Twenty years ago a cancer diagnosis often meant far fewer options and far less hope. Today, thanks to research, we can prevent cancer, find it earlier, and treat it better. According to the 2025 State of Cancer report, cancer deaths have dropped by 24% since 2001. But there is still work to do.

Progress doesn’t happen without funding the people doing the mahi and over the past decade the Cancer Society is proud to have invested over $50 million into cancer research across prevention, early detection, treatment, survivorship and end-of-life care.

Our new Research and Innovation Strategy builds on this work and sets out how we'll bring researchers, health services, and communities together so that discoveries reach the people who need them, faster and more fairly.

Every dollar invested in research brings us closer to a future free from cancer.
