🎄✨ Wrapping Up 2025 with Gratitude ✨🎄
As the year comes to a close, we had the joy of celebrating with our wonderful members at our Christmas party at Thai House Express. It was a fantastic lunch filled with laughter, connection, and festive cheer.
We also rolled up our sleeves with SuperGrans for a special cooking group, creating a delicious lemon cheesecake and a tasty herb and cheese log together – a perfect way to share skills, smiles, and good food.
A heartfelt thank you to all our members who have participated and contributed to the Brain Injury Association Central Districts throughout the year. Your involvement, energy, and support have made 2025 truly memorable.
It has been an absolute pleasure working alongside you all.
With warm regards,
Cat and Allen

A big thank you to SuperGrans Charitable Trust for hosting a fantastic Asian Inspired Cooking class for our members! 🥢🍛
We had a great time learning new skills in the kitchen and working together to prepare a delicious chicken curry. It was a fun, hands on experience and a great way to connect over food and learning.
We’re so grateful for the opportunity - and for the yummy results!

Our upcoming Annual General Meeting (AGM) is being held on 22 October 5:30pm at Hancock Community House

We need to let you know about an important proposed change to our rules. This notice is required under our current rules.

What we are proposing
At our Annual General Meeting (AGM), members will vote on a motion to adopt a new constitution.

The motion: That the Brain Injury Association Central Districts Incorporated adopt the proposed new constitution and re-register under the Incorporated Societies Act 2022.

Due to platform limitations, we’re unable to attach the proposed new constitution directly to this Facebook post. To receive a copy via email, please contact Allen on: [email protected] or send a text to 027 438 1127 and we’ll be happy to send it through.

Why is this important?

The law has changed. All incorporated societies, including ours, must update their constitution and re-register by April 2026.
We used a free government tool to draft the proposed new constitution. Other Brain Injury Associations, like Auckland and Brain Injury NZ, have already updated their constitutions using this free tool.
What’s different under the new law?
• We need at least 10 members
• New members must agree to join
• We must have a committee
• Officers’ duties are clearly defined
• We need a contact person
• AGM must be held within 6 months of balance date
• Our name must end with “Incorporated,” “Inc,” or “Manatōpū”
• We must have a fair process for resolving disputes
For more details, visit: https://is-register.companiesoffice.govt.nz/law-changes-for-societies/
What should you do?
Please read the proposed new constitution carefully. You can share feedback:
• Before the AGM by emailing Allen Oke at [email protected] or texting: 027 438 1127
• At the AGM

This change matters because it keeps our BIACD legal and able to keep supporting members.

A big shout out to the wonderful Apryl at Manawatu Community Law for her education session yesterday held at Hancock Community House. Apryl gave an informative and relative presentation on Eduring Power of Attorney (EPOA). We are so grateful to the Manawatu Community Agencies who help contribute to our Mission at the Brain Injury Central Districts. If you missed this education session, please contact your liaison officer for informative handouts provided by Apryl regarding an EPOA.

A great story shared from Laura Fergusson Brain Injury Trust.

Sam Wright remembers March 13, 2020, well. He was walking home from his shift at Countdown and stepped out into what he thought was a clear road.
