Keeping Palmy Families Close When It Matters Most! 🦁❤️👶🏥
We received the most heartwarming batch of thank-you notes from families staying in Room 202 at the Wellington Ronald McDonald House.
Through our Middle Districts Lions Club Charitable Trust, we provide an annual sponsorship of $7,500 to fund this room. When local kids or tiny newborns face medical emergencies and are flown out of Palmy, this room becomes a free, cozy "home-away-from-home" for their worried parents and siblings.
Why we love this project:
✈️ Direct Local Impact: One card came from a local Palmy family whose baby Anna was born at 31 weeks and helicoptered to Wellington. Room 202 kept them together!
🤫 A Peaceful Sanctuary: It gives exhausted parents a comfortable place to rest, recharge, and process tough moments right down the road from the hospital.
❤️ Pure Aroha: From welcoming new baby girls to letting siblings meet their new sisters, it ensures families don't face these scary moments alone.
A massive thank you to everyone in our community who supports our fundraisers and plays a round at Lions Mini Golf Palmy—you directly help us keep the doors open for Room 202! https://middledistrictslionsclub.org.nz/blog

🦁 Helping Hands for Palmy Families! 📦✨
Our local City Mission does an incredible job running emergency foodbanks and community programmes for anyone doing it tough in Palmerston North—from new parents and refugees to the elderly and those experiencing homelessness.
After a massive push over the Christmas season, their foodbank shelves were left critically low, with only enough food left for eight parcels. 📉
The Lions Club of Middle Districts couldn't let those shelves stay empty. Back in March 2026, we stepped in with a $950 donation to help the City Mission restock their emergency food supplies immediately! 🛒❤️
Why we love this:
🛒 Direct Local Impact: Every dollar goes straight toward essential food items for people in dire need right here in Palmy.
🤝 Proven Track Record: The City Mission is a reputable, hardworking charity providing a vital public service to the Manawatū.
❤️ A Boost When It's Needed Most: Helps families bridge the gap during sudden job losses or unexpected hardships.
A huge thank you to the team at the City Mission for everything you do for our community! 🙌
Want to support our future community grants? Come down and play a round of mini-golf with us! All proceeds go right back into local causes. 🏌️‍♂️🌳

New Lions Cancer Screening bus coming to the North Island.

With #2 Bus in production and headed to the North island later in the year, never has it been more important to increase our database of screeners. You don't need to wait until you have booked the bus, you can be on the lookout all the time! If you are visiting your GP or dermatologist, have a chat, tell them about what we do, ask if they would like to join our group of amazing volunteer screeners and be part of our mission to find the hidden melanomas and other skin cancers.

For more information and tips on how to wow those clinicians and become fluent in 'bus', contact Janet via email at [email protected].

Printing a Brighter, Kinder Future! 🦁💖🏫
Back in July 2025, the Lions Club of Middle Districts Charitable Trust was proud to approve a funding grant of $3,714.94 to the amazing team at the Kind Hearts Trust!
This grant fully covered the reprinting costs of their school resource packs, securing a full three-year supply of materials for over 30 Palmerston North and Manawatū schools. It’s an investment that continues to touch the lives of our tamariki every single day! 📚✨
✨ Why we love this project:
🏫 Classroom Culture: It equips local teachers with the physical tools to build safer, happier, and kinder learning environments.
🧠 Mental Health: The resources teach children that being kind to themselves is a massive part of staying mentally healthy.
🦁 Spot the Lion: We are proud to partner with them, so keep an eye out for our logo on the resource packs in local classrooms!
We love looking back at the lasting impact our Charitable Trust makes right here in Palmy. Find out more about our work and how we support the community at www.middledistrictslionsclub.org.nz 💻

🦁🎶 Breathing New Life into Palmy! 🌬️✨
Back in December 2025, when funding cuts threatened to silence a vital local group, the Lions Club of Middle Districts stepped in. We are incredibly proud to have supported Sing Your Lungs Out (SYLO) with a crucial community grant! 🤝❤️
Meeting weekly at the Palmerston North Leisure Centre, SYLO combines music therapy and physiotherapy to help locals battling severe asthma, respiratory illnesses, and heart conditions breathe easier.
Why we love this:
🌬️ Better Health: Members learn specialized breathing techniques to manage chronic conditions.
☕ True Community: Creates a supportive "second family" over a post-session cuppa.

We’re so to help keep the SYLO family singing! 📣🎵

Flashback Friday: Supporting the Manawatu Goalball Titans! 🦁🏀🔔
We’re looking back at some of our favorite projects from last year, including our $1000 donation to the Manawatu Goalball Titans Sportsclub!
Last September, this grant helped the Titans host a massive training and recruitment drive right here in Palmy. Goalball is an incredible sport where players use bells inside the ball to track play—it’s all about focus, teamwork, and total inclusion.
It was an honor to help this local club grow their team of coaches and referees to ensure the sport thrives in the Manawatū!
Why we loved this project: ✨ Sight & Vision: A core Lions pillar in action. ✨ Community Growth: Helping a local club find the volunteers they need to keep going. ✨ Pure Inspiration: Watching these athletes dive and defend is something else!

Turning Tabs into Treasures for Kidney Kids! 🦁🥫✨
Great news, Palmy! We’ve just cashed in our latest haul of aluminium, resulting in a $158 donation to Kidney Kids NZ. A big thank you to the Middle Districts Lions Club members and the Palmy public for making this possible.
Lions Clubs are committed to supporting these children. By saving your wine bottle tops and can tabs, you’re helping fund:
🏕️ Specialized Camps: Giving kids with medical needs a true Kiwi camping experience.
📰 Family Support: Vital newsletters and resources for parents.
♻️ Sustainability: Keeping aluminum out of landfills and putting it to work for a great cause.

Keeping our Palmy Birds Safe this Winter! 🦁🐦✨

The nights are getting colder, and the rats are getting hungrier! Our Lions Predator Free team has been busy across Palmerston North, and the results are in. We’ve deployed 150+ traps and successfully removed 250+ pests from our local ecosystem! 🐀🚫

Now that autumn is here, it’s the perfect time to rebate those backyard traps and help our native birds thrive.

Why we love this project:
🕊️ Protecting Wildlife: We're making Palmy a safer place for our tūī and pīwakawaka.
🆓 Zero Cost: We provide the traps for free to our community.
🙌 Community Powered: Over 250 catches reported by locals like you!
🌿 Sustainable Future: Helping restore the natural balance of the Manawatū.

Got a neighbor who needs a trap? Or perhaps you've got a catch to report? Let us know in the comments or send us a message! If you’ve lost your "trapping mojo," no worries—give us a shout and we can come collect your trap to relocate it to a new home.

Let’s keep our city singing!
