New to Tramping? Want to get back into tramping?
Our "Beginner Tramps" programme may be just what you are looking for.

Our programme involves a graduated series of tramps and workshops. Suitable for youth and above, those who've never tramped through to those who want to get back into tramping, our aim is to introduce you to tramping gradually.
The trip series begins with an easy low-land bush walk and progresses to exploring the tops of the Ruahine and Tararua Ranges. We walk as a group and at a pace to suit everyone on the day. Along the way you can participate in workshops and learn from our more experienced club members.
The next series of Beginner Tramps will start in February 2026 and is listed on our trip card. To find out about the workshops check out our club nights.
All trips depart from Milverton Park at 7:30am or 8am. We carpool to reduce carbon footprint, petrol share will be included in trip information (cash on the day to the driver). For more information see PNTMC trip planning.
To express interest in a beginner trip or for further information, contact Verity 021260188 or email [email protected] or check out our trip program for dates.

Profile

We are a family friendly tramping and mountaineering club catering to people of all ages and fitness levels. We run weekly trips and have club nights twice a month. Each winter we have a Snowcraft course where people can learn how to walk the mountains in winter conditions and get into more serious climbing if they wish. We support the hut network by maintaining some of the Ruahine huts. If you’re keen to give tramping a go you’re welcome to try a few trips before becoming a member.
