What a fantastic story!

A huge congratulations to Hutt Bridge Club and seven-year-old Rory McDowall, New Zealand's youngest registered bridge player, who recently welcomed the Seven Sharp team for a feature on her bridge journey.

It's wonderful to see young players discovering and thriving in our game. We can't wait to watch Rory's story and share in her excitement.

50 years of friendship, laughter and bridge in Cromwell ♥️

What a special milestone for the Cromwell Bridge Club, who recently celebrated their 50th anniversary with a beautiful lunch at Carrick Winery, followed by an evening of cards, connection and plenty of laughs.

The day was made even more meaningful with the presentation of two new Life Memberships to Elaine Moir and Viv Willson, recognising their incredible contribution and dedication to the club over many years.

From the players who first established the club in 1976, through to today’s members who keep the tables full of energy, humour and friendly competition, this anniversary was a wonderful celebration of everything bridge clubs do best — bringing people together.

As club president Carole Bee so beautifully said, “bridge may be the excuse, but community has always been the purpose.”

Congratulations to everyone at Cromwell Bridge Club on this remarkable milestone. Here’s to the next 50 years.

90 years. Thousands of hands played. Countless friendships formed. ♣️

The Otago Bridge Club is getting ready to celebrate a huge milestone next month, marking nine decades of strategy, connection and community in Dunedin. From its early beginnings to the vibrant club it is today, it’s a true testament to the staying power of bridge and the people behind it.

With a full weekend of tournaments and social events planned, it’s safe to say this club is still as strong as ever, bringing together players of all ages and experience levels around the table.

Celebrating the Women of Bridge ♠️

This International Women’s Day, we’re celebrating the incredible women who make the bridge community across Aotearoa so special.

From experienced players like Pam Livingston, who has proudly represented New Zealand seven times, to long-time competitors like Jan Alabaster, whose love of the game has spanned more than four decades, women continue to shape the game at every level.

Bridge is also a game of partnership and connection. Sometimes that partnership runs deep, like mother and daughter duo Carol Richardson and Andi Boughey, who have spent years playing side by side and representing New Zealand together.

For younger players like Lysandra Zheng, the journey is just beginning. It’s a reminder that bridge continues to welcome new generations into the game.

Beyond the international stage, the real magic of bridge happens in clubs across the country, where friendships are formed, laughter is shared, and women play a huge role in creating the warm, welcoming communities that keep the game thriving.

Today we celebrate all the women who bring skill, generosity, humour, and heart to the table.

Happy International Women’s Day from all of us at New Zealand Bridge 💛

The Countdown Is On — Congress Starts Tomorrow!

Players from all around Aotearoa (and beyond!) are making their way to Palmerston North for National Congress 2025 — and we couldn’t be more excited.

This year, we’re welcoming a wonderful mix of familiar faces and fresh talent, including a strong wave of Intermediate players joining the action. Congress is all about connection: the friendships, the learning, the shared stories, and of course… the bridge!

Safe travels to everyone heading to Palmy — we’ll see you at the tables!
