Why NZ should build cities around train stations….
Of course, we need regular passenger trains - for inter-regional travel, and for commuting, and not just in Auckland & Wellington!

Massey University researcher Thomas Nash has visited UK cities to see what NZ can learn from building communities with trains at the centre.

All hail the Capital Connection! Because it is now the ONLY transport between Waikanae and Palmerston North (expect private car) following Intercity reducing its services yet again! Before Covid there were at least 6 services a day. Any talk of NZ being serious about economic growth is just a joke when thousands of people in communities across NZ are increasingly getting cut off from opportunities for employment, healthcare, tourism, and family connection.

Frequency of the Capital Connection should be increased immediately. People shouldn't have to wait years for a meaningful service.

Politicians, both local and national, and government agencies should care about the impact of poor public transport on people and the economy.

Friendly welcome for passengers on the first passenger train from Auckland and Hamilton to Tauranga for decades! May there be many more (and preferably scheduled, regular, and affordable ones!)

From Tauranga CBD to Otūmoetai (4 mins), Bethlehem (8 mins), Te Puna (11 mins), Plummer’s Point (13 mins), and Ōmokoroa (16 mins). Rail for Bay of Plenty is insanely efficient! And image this view each day…
