“Survivor Trinity” Group camp @ Camp Sladdin this weekend. Thank you to all the leaders who ran this camp BRAVO!

Congratulations to Grayson’s tribe who won the “survivor” title and to all the youth for taking on all the challenges and working well together in their troops. It was wonderful to see and hear the laughter and fun the youth were having over the weekend.

There were plenty of activities throughout the weekend including night hikes, waterfall walk, bracelet making, shelter building, first aid training, bridge building, confidence course training and making the hot dogs for lunch.

They played a lot of games including spotlight, capture the flag and board games and there was a movie night. We even celebrated Fletchers 15th birthday on camp 🎂.

A scout camp always has a campfire at night with campfire songs and skits performed and a Scouts Own ceremony. Campfire songs were the loudest I’ve heard for some time and the skits were very entertaining.

Our very own Craig Stephens received a Silver Tiki Award at the Founders Day leaders ceremony last night.

The silver Tiki Award was presented to Craig for his outstanding excellent voluntary service to Scouts.

Craig has been the foundation of our scout group for many years and has filled the roles of Group Leader, section leader(s) (sometimes having to run all sections at once), fundraising organiser, committee member, financial and budget adviser, maintenance and equipment manager, Jamboree/troop manager and the list goes on. Craig has continued supporting our group even after his own kids have finished their time in Scouts.

We also want to thank Craig’s family for their support along the way as they have also helped out behind the scenes and on various jobs and projects.

Thank you so much for everyone who helped out today at the den. The gable weatherboards at the back of the den have been successfully replaced!

Thank you Craig (who always carries a huge load in these projects), Greg, Stan, Nick, Jason, Sean, Dean, Margaret and the Venturers: Dylan, Fletcher, Emma, Mieke and Grayson.

The painting will be done progressively as time and availability allows so it will look brand new once the paint goes on.

The Venturers also had their own working bee of their loft area throughout the day and put a huge effort into clearing unwanted furniture, pulling up the carpet, cleaning and clearing the walls and patching holes and sealing the flaky wood chip floor in preparation for a fresh coat of paint. So good to see everyone working together to make their area into the place they want it to be.

Thank you to everyone that came and lent a hand and threw a hammer and moved weatherboards. 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 A great team effort put in by Craig, Greg, Nick, Ben, Josh, Stan and Margaret. It still needs another coat of paint but the den is looking much more loved than before.

Our den is finally getting some TLC done today with the replacement of the gable weatherboards. Craig and Stan would appreciate it if a couple of strong people came to help out the process this morning please. 🙏

From Monday, 28 December 2026, to Thursday, 7 January 2027, Scouts Aotearoa will host the 24th Aotearoa New Zealand Scout Jamboree at Mystery Creek, Hamilton, Waikato – the largest Scouting event in the country!

Just a reminder about why we do the Fireworks sale every year: we fund raise so that we can send our scouts and leaders to the NZ Jamboree which is happening next year Dec 28 2026 - Jan 7 2027. It’s the highlight of the scouting calendar for the Scouts.
