Bay of Islands Toastmasters meeting prevailed , despite the wild, wooly, stormy night last Thursday, with everyone zooming in to attend

It was fabulous fun, with no weather waffle needed.
Instead, there was lots of positivity, encouraging feedback, wonderful speeches, including a practice speech as the brother of a grooms wedding, and a concocted entertaining, and delightful acceptance speech, for the completion of an imaginary Masters Degree. There was also, a down to earth moving speech, that addressed the sombering subject of death, but then the contrast of the beautiful legacy left behind

For Table Topics, there was a mind-twisting feast of questions, covering the meeting theme 'Brain Health', which provoked some very interesting conversations, ideas, and some hilarious creative thinking went into answers, to some questions that sounded like they came straight from Oxford Medical professors. There was something about camel injections, and u could guess where that lead... spitting and biting, or was it kicking, had something to do with the fictitious and inventive response/answer (I hadn't laughed that much in a long time, my jaw was aching)

We also had the pleasure of receiving some additional valuable feedback from Margot, our District Club Retention Chair, who was visiting, by zooming in, as a special guest

Overall, the night was well worth venturing into zoomland for, and we look forward to the next episode.

Our next meeting is planned for Thursday 9th April 2026, 7pm - 9pm, Baptist Church hall, 77 Williams Rd, Paihia ... Hope to see you there πŸ˜„πŸ‘

At our last toastmasters meeting, we had the wackiest fun, with all the amazing mad hatter tea party hats our members and guests were able to dream up.

People were also inspired to create some fun dishes for our festive tea party in the break.

Games involved lots of chaos, with fresh cups being passed around here, there and everywhere, and people were coming up with nonsensical and illogical answers to the ridiculous, nonsensical, illogical questions asked.

Tea party goers almost lost their heads, when they were sentenced to come up with their funniest joke, or most hilarious riddle, and they needed to hit half way on the laugh meter in order to receive a 'not guilty' verdict.

We had the Queen of hearts, Queen of spades, the White rabbit, Mad hatters, Alice in Wonderland, Tweedle-dee and Tweedle dum, the Doormouse, and many more wondrous, colourful characters

'Come and join in the fun' at Bay of Islands Toastmasters

But wait there's more... 'What else has been happening at Bay of Islands Toastmasters over the past month or so'

We had members enter into the Northern Division area contest held in Whangarei at the end of September

Joelle had us in stitches with her hilarious 'Humorous Speech'

And Yvette and Joelle got to improve their skills in spontaneous and improvised speaking, when competing in the 'Table Topics' contest

Whats been happening at Bay of Islands Toastmasters over the past month or so?

We had Spence and Jeanette Penney up, Spence being our current Area Director. Spence and Jeanette have a wealth of knowledge and expertise to share, so it was absolutely fabulous to have them visit our local club, providing some valuable feedback, and also to help oversee our club 'Moments of truth' where we had the privilege of self evaluating how our club is progressing, and to plan for improvements that will continue to move us forward and onto our clubs future successes, ensuring all members and guests have memorable, valuable, and positive experiences, in a supportive, and thriving environment.

We had fun at the last Toastmasters meeting with a fabulous speech by Colin, sharing fascinating facts from a book that he and his mother wrote about some history of the area up here.
There were also lots of 'blossoming' table topic answers 'springing' to peoples minds in response to table topics questions

At our next meeting, this Thursday/tomorrow night, will be a new, unique and exciting meeting for us, covering a Moments of Truth session with our Area Director Spence, along with a batch of table topics with a slight twist to the usual structure! This will help us test out the contest setting, which comes up this Saturday (shout out if you're keen) :-)

At our last 2 Bay of Islands Toastmasters club meetings, we had great fun discussing our fabulous 'Club Success Plan'.
We've got a little further to go, but we're now starting to put this in place.

Of course, we also loved the quick-fire table topics session run by Pete at our last club meeting. - The subject was 'Cooking', and his wife/Lana (who prepared the feast of questions) certainly cooked up some tantilising, juicy treats/questions.
As well, Nikki practised her brilliant speech for an upcoming 'special occasion'.

Meet Troy Smith,...our wonderful Bay of Islands Toastmasters Club President (attending our meeting via zoom, from Waikato)

Troy joined Toastmasters randomly 12 years ago, through the company he was working for at that time. He said it started out as a bit of a novelty and a good way of mixing with his collegues, but he soon discovered the true value of Toastmasters, and he hasnt looked back since.

Troy says the experience has been invaluable, and he loves getting to know others and hearing their inspiring stories, in both our club, as well as many other clubs around the country, at events conferences, and competitions.

I asked Troy what he's got out of Toastmasters so far?

A. He said it's helped greatly with his confidence, and to step outside his comfort zone and say 'yes' to different opportunities that have since arisen in his life, - it's given him the get-up-and-go to 'seize life and opportunities by the horns' so to speak

Troy gave a fascinating speech/presentation at our last meeting, titled 'A Study Story - Investigating Green Roofs'
This speech in particular gave him the opportunity to practice a technical presentation, which he will deliver in 1 months time, to wrap up his Bachelors Degree, in Environmental Engineering, at the University of Waikato.

We'd like to wish him all the best with his final project and his upcoming concluding presentation.

And we look forward to hearing further captivating speeches by Troy in the future, both via zoom from the Waikato, and hopefully in person, in Paihia, at a club meeting, when he finishes his studies in October

What an inspirational meeting we had tonight, when Beaumont and his eight students paid an impromptu visit to our toastmasters group to learn more about public speaking. The theme was International Women's Day. We were so impressed when some of the students volunteered to give a tabletopic. Well done our Rangitahi you will go far
