Congratulations to Willow Parsons who represented Pahiatua School with pride at the Lions Speechmakers Competition coming in a very close 3rd place! Competition was very high this year and all of the contestants delivered amazing speeches.

🏑 WINTER TOURNAMENT WEEK – LET’S GO TC🏑

The Tararua College 1st XI Boy's Hockey team are heading away for Winter Tournament Week! 💙💛

This year, the team is incredibly fortunate to have some of our Year 13 students, along with the goalie from our Girls 1st XI, joining forces to represent the Tier 4 Lower North Island Boys Team. What an awesome opportunity and a great example of our students supporting each other and getting behind the game they love!

Getting a team to tournament takes a huge amount of commitment, hard work and, importantly, community support. We simply could not have made this tournament happen without the incredible generosity of our sponsors, families, school and wider community.

A very sad day for the Pahiatua Lions as we farewelled Lion Gary. Despite only joining us in 2017 he made a huge contribution to the club. He was willing to do any job, had an amazing sense of fun and always had good ideas to make our projects better. A good and kind man that made our part of the world better. We will miss him

Last night the Lions met for Change of Officers night at The Blue Moon Restaurant. After the wonderful meal Past District Governor Leon Downes inducted everyone into their roles. The club would like to thank Leon and his wife Liz for joining us for Waikanae for the evening. A big thank you to the staff at The The Blue Moon Authentic Indian and Nepalese Cuisine. The food and service was excellent and we thoroughly enjoyed or evening with you.

The main reason for Leon’s visit, however, was to honour a Lion that has given over 40 years service to Lions and the Pahiatua Community, Lion Russell Hughes, with a prestigious Progressive Melvin Jones Fellowship. If you ever see the Lions out and about Russell will be there doing what needs to be done. He has served Lions as a District Governor and a Cabinet chair and provides leadership and wise advice to our club. Russell has also been club secretary for many years so the fact that we managed to surprise him with a PMJF made it even more special. Russell immediately said he could only do it with the support of his wife Anne, who helps with Lions in numerous ways. We want to thank Russell, and Anne, for all the do for the Pahiatua Community, and our club and want them to know that this award came from the place of respect and gratitude for all your hard work.

Over for another year. Final count is not in yet but it will be a record for books sold. Thank you to everyone the purchased books. More money will be available for community projects this year. Thank you to the Tararua Lions who spend hours getting the books in order. They got many compliments on how nice the sale looked. Thank you to the Tararua College 1st XV, and families, and the Woodville Girl Guiding and their families for helping with set up and packing up. The biggest thank you goes to Stephen Duckett for all his assistance during the week, and last but not least the sale could not run without the organiser Barbara Duckett putting in work during the year to ensure it all goes smoothly. We are done for 2026 but we will see you at the Town Hall 11th and 12th June 2027

An update from the book sale. The Tararua Lions have been busy today sorting the books for sale. Lots of Sci-Fi, children's and young adults. Plenty of jigsaw puzzles for a wet Sunday Also if you still have a DVD or CD player there maybe something to add to your collection. Books are only $2 each and only a $1 for children's books. Doors open 10am Friday.

The Tararua and Pahiatua Lions started setting up for their annual booksale today. Come along Friday 10am to 7pm and Saturday 10am to 3.30pm and get some winter reading. All proceeds are donated to the local community.
