A growing number of overworked travelers are seeking rejuvenation in retreats and tours that focus on connection and creativity: blockprinting in Finland or India, sewing in England, embroidery in Italy.

Sometimes called slowcations, these trips sell themselves as the opposite of the soul-sucking “follow-the-flag” tours.

The trips are particularly appealing to solo women travelers, a long overlooked, but rapidly growing, segment of the travel market.

“You can travel and be nourished instead of tired at the end.” said Vida Forrest y Salazar, co-owner of tour company Ace Camps, which offers two dozen craft-focused trips globally.

Local creatives and supporters of the arts in Ōpunakē, Manaia and Eltham, this opportunity is for you!

The South Taranaki Creative Communities Scheme (CCS) - local arts funding facilitated by STDC on behalf of Creative NZ - will soon be underway again for 2026: Opening on 13th February and closing 13th March. Go to https://www.southtaranaki.com/our-community/funding/creative-communities-scheme to find out more.

South Taranaki CSS is run by STDC Governance Officer, Kaya Acero, and Michaela Stoneman, STDC Arts Co-ordinator.
They are currently seeking Expressions of Interest (EOI) from people residing in South Taranaki who would be interested in joining the CCS group in 2026.

The CCS Allocation group meets twice a year (April & October) to review CCS funding applications received and allocate funds to creative projects around the district.

Following the local body election last year, the four Community Boards have appointed reps for the CCS committee.
The CCS Allocation group also includes community members who are involved in the arts, as well as Youth and Iwi representatives.

Training will be offered to everyone, run by Rena Silipa from Creative NZ in Hāwera in March.
There is also a CCS Assessors Handbook which provides a good overview of the processes, eligibility and focus of the funding.

If you're interested in finding out more then please contact Kaya or Michaela via email: [email protected].

This is a great opportunity to get involved and support local arts projects happening in our communities, such as Dimphy De Vaan's Printmaking Workshops! More to come......
