Met Service Āotearoa has upgraded the Heavy Rain Warning for the Bay of Plenty to RED.
🌧 What this means:
• An intense period of rain today through to Thursday morning (around 9am)
• 180–240mm of rain expected on top of what has already fallen
• Peak downpours of 25–40mm per hour
🔴 Red warnings indicate dangerous conditions, including:
• Rapidly rising rivers
• Flooding and slips
• Road closures and hazardous travel
🚪 Service update – Te Tāwharau o Te Whakatōhea & Te Pou Oranga o Te Whakatōhea
• Our offices and services has closed since 1.00pm today
• Staff will be working remotely
• All going well, we will reopen Friday morning
🚗 Please travel only if essential
• Check NZTA Waka Kotahi for road closures
• Avoid floodwaters - do not cross, drive, or play in them
• If water levels rise, move to higher ground immediately
