OMARUMUTU PAPAKAINGA RESTORATION PROJECT
Just an update on mahi that's taking place at Te Rangimatanui urupa and the Omarumutu Papakainga Restoration area.
PEST CONTROL TRAPS
Thanks to Tessa Ranginui who has agreed to continue the trapping project to catch those pesky weasels, stoats and rats. They are the main ones responsible for eating the eggs of our native birds and shorebirds. If you have any rangatahi who are willing to learn and give trapping a go then get in touch with Tessa on 0273499494.
W**D CONTROL
Thanks to everyone who has been doing this in your own time. You are doing a great job keeping our w**ds down in your own areas. But recently there has been gorse spraying by Jared Watson and w**d whacking from the Community Workers from the Department of Corrections. That mahi has not gone unnoticed. Thank you.
DISPOSING OF RUBBISH
Following the recent fire damage at the urupa, the large incinerator has now been taken away. No more lighting fires and please dispose of your own rubbish when cleaning your loved ones graves. Just throw water on them as you would wash your own hands when you leave the urupa to remove any tapu. Green waste like harakeke from the side of the hill of the marae is okay to take and leave over the hill as close to the fence facing seaward as possible. Thanks for your understanding whānau.
