The new tunnel house is now in use for winter. Seed trays are full with tiny seedlings popping up in the warm conditions.
While we wait for them to grow, our broad beans are now flowering, pineapple sage and rosemary are in full flower and available, and we have planted a winter "cover crop" of lupins, mustard and grains which will be later dug into the soil to add nitrogen and extra nutrients to the garden bed.

Autumn has arrived in the Omokoroa Community Garden. We have a selection of vegetables available right now. We have Kale for smoothies, Okinawa Spinach for you to try, fresh lettuce and Sorrel to put with little chillies, and our two Artichokes. Freshly dug Jerusalem Artichokes and a new purple flower on the Globe Artichoke will soon change to a globe in the coming months.

The Community Garden is in transition at the moment as our volunteers remove the last of the Summer plantings and prepare the beds for new Winter crops. That's why you won't find an over abundance of produce to pick. There is produce to be had even though the selection is a bit limited until the new plantings are ready.
Last Saturday we put the final touches to our new Redpath Tunnel House with the installation of potting benches complete with a wash basin. Perfect for propagating our own seedlings.
We are now well advanced with our major Garden Improvement projects and there is always something new to see.
We have a steady stream of visitors making use of the Garden even if it's just for a chat with the volunteers. They're always happy to give their time. Thursday and Saturday are the volunteer days.
Please come and enjoy our special place, take what you need and leave plenty for others. A donation is always appreciated!

What's been happening at the Community Garden over the past week.
Here's a sample of some of the veggies we're growing

Our composting system works a treat. From mulching the garden waste to garden ready mulch takes 4-6 weeks and gives us up to 1 cubic metre of beautiful mulch to replenish our beds! Perfect!

New seedlings planted out and ready for you in a few weeks time.

Another successful morning by our enthusiastic band of volunteers. They've got the Garden looking beautiful and the warm Autumn weather is proving especially fruitful with a wide range of vegetables and herbs ready to grace your tables.
We left the stall well stocked. please take what you need and leave plenty for others, there will always be more next week.
Donations are really appreciated.
If you're not into vegetables and herbs the Garden is such a wonderful place just to sit, relax and let the Garden take your stress away.
Enjoy!

The volunteers had a very busy day at the Community garden last Saturday.
The major project for the day was the dismantling of our old, storm damaged Tunnel House.
We are extremely grateful to the Omokoroa-Kaimai Community Board for a generous grant that is allowing us to buy and install a new Redpath Tunnel House so we can continue propagating our own plants and seedlings.
We also acknowledge the valuable support of Gavin Burns of the Omokoroa Lions Club for supplying muscle power and resources.
