I am keen to discover if anyone has a photograph of the Orange Order hall that once existed in Okaihau. I've spent the last few years writing a history of the Order in New Zealand and am now looking for illustrative material. Any help will be gratefully appreciated. FNDC recently presented their 2025 Lifetime Achievement award.
There were 11 nominees and 3 of them were from the local Okaihau community (!!) - Hazel & Neil MacMillan and Blue Newport!
Congratulations and thank you for everything you do, not just for Okaihau but for the wider community too!

And of course, congratulations to all the other nominees, also.

The award went to a well-deserving nominee: Manga Tangaroa Aperahama-Kopa.

The Okaihau Community Association has had a very busy year, this year.
Just to fill you in on a few of the things we have been involved with on the communitys' behalf:
• The Okaihau Hall renovation - we’ve been pushing this for quite a number of years, and to finally have the renovations completed is a wonderful event. Hopefully you all agree – we now have a wonderful facility.
• Speed-humps in the town – another issue we have been chasing council on for many years. Unfortunately the death of a young man was the catalyst that got things moving. The OCA organised the petition that was supported by so many, and presented this to council. Council elections & EOY breaks have caused some delays, but things will get moving again in the New Year.
• We organised a highly successful Meet-the-Candidates meeting in September – show-casing quite a number of our local candidates.
• Okaihau playground – our current project involves sourcing funding to install a small playground in the community for young children.
• Tennis Courts – we organise & pay for any repairs & maintenance necessary on the Tennis Courts, to keep this facility open for the community.
• CCTV – we manage and arrange funding for any changes, or additions to the CCTV system. We have installed cameras near the college this year & are working towards putting some on Lake Rd also.
• Defibrillator – the old one at the Dairy was past its use-by-date, so we purchased & installed a new one for the community. A training session for the public was also organised.
• Every year we host & organise the Okaihau Christmas gala - a hugely enjoyable day.
• In addition, we have supported & donated to:
The Bowling club – for their all-weather green
The Railway storyboard & seating area
The Pou Herenga Tai Twin Coast Cycleway
We are a very small group of dedicated people who work hard to assist the community where we can.
If you think you would like to be involved, come along to a meeting! We meet on the first Monday of each month, except for January.
If there are any issues that you feel are important, please come along to a meeting and bring them to our attention.
Wishing you all a safe & happy Christmas & New Year.

What a fantastic Christmas gala we had today!

Such an amazing array of floats - thanks to everyone (businesses & individuals) that put so much effort into making them fabulous!
Huge thanks to our sponsors: Okaihau Transport, Okaihau Lions & Flood Roofing.

Thanks also to Johnie for the music, the Fire-Brigade for delivering Santa & providing rides all morning, the Lions for bringing Thomas-the-Tank engine along for more rides, all the stall-holders & food-stalls, the people running the games - and everyone else who worked hard to make it a success.

But mostly, thank you to everyone who came along just to enjoy the day. Without you there, all our work is wasted!

Merry Christmas & Happy New Year from the Okaihau Community Association.

The Christmas Parade is on Saturday at Okaihau Rugby grounds, starting at 10am. The parade route will be:

Down Settlers Way, from the Primary school, towards the shops. Turn right into Lawn st, and then right again into Michie st – the floats will then circle the domain grounds before lining up in a row in the centre of the grounds where the public can come & have a look.

To ensure safety, we ask that floats refrain from throwing, or handing out, lollies while on the public streets – once on the domain grounds this will be fine. We don’t want children darting onto the road to get sweets.

Can people wanting a float or a stall please email us at – [email protected], so we can co-ordinate the parade & layout for stalls on the domain.

Looking forward to seeing you there!

I'm really looking forward to our Christmas Parade. Below is some important infomation if you are thinking of entering a float in the parade. Please read it all the way to the end!!

The meeting-place for the floats is NO LONGER at the Dairy parking area on SH1, we're moving away from proximity to SH1 for safety reasons.

The NEW meeting point for the floats is at the Primary-school turnaround, with floats starting to assemble from 9:30am.

The parade will start at 10am.

The parade route will be:

Down Settlers Way, from the Primary school, towards the shops. Turn right into Lawn st, and then right again into Michie st – the floats will then circle the domain grounds before lining up in a row in the centre of the grounds where the public can come & have a look.
