Tautoko whanau!

Tēnā koutou katoa,

My name is Justin Tamihana. I’m standing to lead — as Mayor of Horowhenua and as your representative for the Kerekere Ward.

It’s been an honour to serve as a Māori Ward Councillor — a role that’s grounded me in the realities, challenges, and aspirations of our people. Over the past three years, I’ve stood shoulder to shoulder with our whānau, worked across council, and backed our communities to have their voices heard.

Along the way, I’ve connected more widely — listened to concerns, heard the hopes, and seen the potential across our rohe. That’s why I’m now standing in the general ward: to expand that reach, strengthen that service, and offer steady leadership across the district.

I love this place. I back our people. And I believe Horowhenua deserves leadership that’s consistent, grounded, and unafraid to front up.

Leadership isn’t about titles — it’s about turning up, doing the work, and standing firm when the pressure comes on. It’s about listening with intent, showing up with integrity, and doing what’s right — even when it’s not easy.

We’re facing real pressures: the rising cost of living, housing and homelessness, families doing it tough, high council debt, and major reforms like Local Water Done Well. But we’re also standing on solid opportunity — and with the right leadership, we can move forward with solutions that are practical, people-focused, and built to last.

As someone of both Māori and Pākehā descent, I carry the responsibility of two worlds — and I know how important it is that everyone in this district feels seen, respected, and included.

I’ll always stand for Te Tiriti o Waitangi. I’ll continue to back Māori Wards and work closely with mana whenua as we shape the future of this district. He mihi nui ki a koutou, e te iwi me ngā hapū o Horowhenua.

But my commitment is to everyone who calls this place home — from our coastal communities to our farming families, from town centres to quiet back roads.

The months ahead will bring kōrero, decisions, and challenges that matter. I welcome them. Because I know who I am. I know who I serve.

Over this election, it’s already becoming clear that you’re going to see all sorts of narratives. What I know for sure, is my campaign won’t be built on the backs of others, but instead the mana of my own mahi and genuine care for this district.

If you’re wanting a leader that stays focus on the true mahi involved with keeping Horowhenua a safe, thriving community without distraction — then vote for me!!!

And I’m ready!!!

I’m proud to be from the Horowhenua, and even more humbled to serve and represent you.

Ngā mihi maioha,Justin Tamihana

Anei whanau, sharing panui from Ngāti Turanga page regarding yesterdays tragic incident at Foxton Beach:

Notification of Rahui.

Condolences to the family for the loss of the young person who tragically died in an ATV incident @ Te Wharangi yesterday. I will be performing karakia @ dawn around 7 am, out by the life-saving club this morning, placing a 3-day rahùi in that area. (depending on their tangihanga day) Restricting the taking of fauna, flora & kai moana from that area. I have included (via social media ) to the local Hapu of my intentions. You're all invited to join me in this process, if unavailable, that's all good. I will return to the incident site in 3-4 days and lift the restrictions placed on that area, reinstating it as a safe zone for all. Once again condolences. Hope this is helpful.

Nga mihi, Toha.
