DUCK HUNTING SEASON - DEVIL'S BRIDGE WETLAND ACCESS BY PERMISSION ONLY

The first weekend in May marks the traditional start of duck-hunting season. There will be several groups of hunters at the wetland for opening weekend, and there may be hunting there at any time through the season.

*For this reason, any one wishing to visit the wetland over the coming months MUST ask for permission first.*

This will normally be granted, we just need to know when people will be at the wetland.

Thanks for your understanding, will post when normal access resumes.

2% devil. 98% wetland lagoon.

100% nature at its finest.

Explore the Devil’s Bridge Wetland walking track to discover a ‘disappearing stream’ where water drains into an underground limestone cave system.

Nice to see a different angle on the wetland and our neighbours' properties :)

Hi all - duck hunting season now over for another year. Access is now open to all once again, please enjoy yourself.

Still need to get permission to take dogs, and school-groups and the like should also get permission from landowners first (just so we know you will be there).

Thanks.

Support QE2 in their bid for more funding!

The Devil's Bridge Wetland is private land but it is protected in perpetuity for public enjoyment by a QE2 covenant. We believe these covenants are probably the best model out there for protecting NZ's native biodiversity on private land, because it is the public working *with* landowners, rather than telling people what to do.

There is great support from QE2 when setting up protected areas and the QE2 regional reps are fantastic sources of advice

But successive Governments have only paid lip service to the organisation and its aims, even as the number of covenants grew and more landowners wanted to take part. The model is under threat.

Please read the article and if you can, support QE2 - spread the word, message politicians and hopefully we can get investment in community led approaches to biodiversity conservation where we all win.

QEII National Trust relies largely on government funding, and its budget is set to shrink.

To the people in the vehicle rego HCx-### (that's all we will share for now):

While the wetland appreciates public support, we do not have any use for your donation of garden waste and lawn clippings that you dropped off this evening around 6.30-7pm.

You left before we could have a chat, so hopefully you see this - please come and take them away, so we don't have to pass your details on.

If you tidy them up, we’re happy to let that be the end of it.

WETLAND CLOSED FOR TREE REMOVAL: Monday 25 - Wednesday 27 November 2024

The Wetland will be closed for a few days next week, Monday 25 - Wednesday 27, to allow tree felling and removal to take place.

As mentioned in an earlier post, several species currently at the wetland either did not grow in the area historically, or need thinned out to allow others to flourish. Some need tidied up beside the track.

Chainsaws and off-road vehicles will be operating.

ALL PUBLIC ACCESS IS CLOSED ON THESE DAYS

Thanks for your support of the wetland, will post as soon as its open again
